The group of roadies I regularly ride with who are all in their seventies , are all getting ebikes. I was always at the back but now am even further behind.
I do have an EMTB but can't afford a road ebike as well so has anybody tried riding an EMTB with roadies?
Where we ride is very much up and down but obviously there are flat bits . Will I get drastically left once the motors cut out?
you'd be better sticking with your normal roadbike unless the group you ride with literally pootle around at 15mph everywhere...
alternatively.. i guess you could throw a set of lightweight wheels and tyres on and make some of the difference up...but in all honesty.. cruising at 20mph on a road bike is easy.. trying to cruise at 15mph on an MTB is a mission
Depends how quick they’re going tbh, if they’re gonna sit on the speed limiter at 15.5mph up hill and down dale then the motor will ensure you don’t get left. Albeit, you’ll use a bit more battery due to the draggy tyres etc.
But if they’re going at normal roadie speeds then I’d say you will get (slowly, due to their age) dropped.
Go out and try it, nothing to lose.
No such thing as a bad bike ride.
You will wear out the same 2-3 cogs of the cassette quite quickly, if it's a Shimano one, you can replace them though.
Change the tyres and then draft behind them when required to remove teh bad aerodynamics of MTB position. You will be able to keep up up the hills as all riders have same assistance available.
