I have a set of Bontrager Rythem Comp wheels that came on my Trek EX8 and today noticed the cassette moving in and out and up and down on the hub.

The disc on the other side is perfectly straight and never moves but the other side looks like it is doing a dance.

Wheels have done 650 miles and have not been jumped much.

Any ideas?

Bent axle? Freehub bearings shot? The only way to know is to dismantle it and have a look.

My XT's do this. No amount of stripping and re-building etc affect it.

I cant see it when riding so meh its not a problem. What you cant see doesnt exist. ๐Ÿ™‚

This has only happened in the last 24 hours. And noticed it today when my indexing went up the swanny!

Hoped it would not be that as I currently have another rear wheel in pieces waiting for 3 new bearings.

Guys this is another set of wheels to hang up till I get it sorted. Back to the Mavic Cross Ride back ups again!

Took the cassette off and gave the axcel bolts a nip and it is still there. Guess I need to get it stripped down. Anyone know what the inners of the free hub look like?

They're some kind of DT hub, can't remember which as Trek used a few different types, so you should be able to check on their website for an exploded diagram. They're all pretty straightforward to strip down and service, may be worth calling the guys at Trek warranty dept for advice though.
