i have one of these thats stock set up any reason i couldnt upgrade the brakes bang on some knobblies and change to a more offroad gear and use it as a mountain bike ? im presuming the frame/forks should be upto it as altho its a road commuter its made around an mtb set up (so is prob just an old cheapo mtb frameset i guess)
any thoughts

Should be alright for some light xc but I would try to avoid drops or launching off anything.

front has lots of clearance frame will take a bonty jones i think
