If so what do you think as a decent "summer" tyre (summer as in uk summer)
Will be used on a diet of Dark peak grit and hard pack
Would an Aspen on the rear be better than a pair of Ardents (F+R)?
2.3 Highroller on the front , 2.1 Ardent on the back
works a treat for me loads of grip on the front and fast rolling from the back ๐
ardent 29r tyres roll nice and are plenty grippy.........so yes.
i ran ardent 2.4's front and rear. ditched the rear and went to dual ply cos i pinch loads. not a problem with the ardent,it happens with all single plys. ditched the front too cos it washes out a little to easy. if i was aftr a single ply rear id consider one but not for the front if you are giving it some.
Running Aspen/Ardent on one set of wheels atm. Roll well but stiil had pretty good levels of grip on the off piste stuff at CyB yesterday even though it was pretty wet, I just had to be a little more careful climbing over wet roots. When dry they grip as well as anything else. As soon as there is the slightest bit of mud on the trails I put something with more grip on both ends.
i wouldn't say there fast rolling, but they do roll ok.
got them on my bike front and rear at the moment, and have done so for about 6 weeks, ive found them to be a peculiar tyre in that.that side wall says 35-65psi,but found that the front tyre offers fantastic grip when run around 24/27psi,a lot less sketchy when say ran at the recommended 35+(imo)
also found that the central tred pattern to be quite high, which is fine in a straight line, and for brakeing, but i found that when going into a corner at speed or over roots there seemed to be a definite transfer of grip, from the center of the tyre to the outer edge. (as if was just about to let go but then gripped again) ive also noticed that the faster i go into a bend the less of a problem this is,
so merchent bankers sunday morning round up of the maxxis ardent is.
a very grippy tyre wet or dry if the tyre pressure is lowish 24/27f 32/35r
a tyre that responds well the more you chuck at it,as in the faster you go the safer it feels.
rolls ok and not to heavy.
very soft rubber
ride in the peaks 2/3 times a week in all weathers and haven't found the need to change them, now ive messed with the tyre pressure.running tubeless on tn719s no punctures no pinch flats either.
this is my personal opinion and can be rolled up and thrown in the bin if you see fit.
Ardent/crossmark here, great summer combo. Quite sketchy in even a little damp though (srdent front) IMO. I run nevegal/bluegrooves if it's rained even just a little.
Ardents here too, 2.25" on front and rear.
They're an order of magnitude faster rolling than my old Kenda SB8s (in 2.35" form at least) and a good compromise between grip and speed. I may well swap for a 2.35" Nevegal up front for trail centre riding though.
2.25 front and rear, running tubeless. Blow up nice and wide on my Flows. Used them last summer and put them back on again for this summer. Not massively fast rolling but quick enough. Used them on sand, chalk, loose gravel and ran them at Cwm Carn and Afan. Can't fault them.
