Hi all.

So I was planning on getting a new bike in the new year and had a budget of £3000. I mostly ride Dartmoor and the trail centres around Devon & Cornwall with the odd trip to FOD and BPW so was looking a bikes like the Orange Five. However with a baby on the way my budget has halved. Unfortunately I missed the YT Jeffsy that was reduced to £1499 so am now thinking a decent hardtail such as the new Bird Zero or Commencal Meta AM HT. Does anyone have any recommendations or other bikes that I haven’t though of. Any advice would be appreciated.

Jeffsy frame deal on the classifieds that could be built up into a full bike for £1500 easy.

A new Zero TR here and after 3 weeks I really can’t fault it. Good value, great bike, good service from the guys at Bird. I had been hanging out for a new Soul, but the Bird made more sense for my needs.

Commencal Trail full suspension
example:
https://www.commencal-store.co.uk/meta-trail-v3-650b-black-2017-c2x19265774
Sells for around 1.6 k right now

there are other Commencal trail bikes "in sale"

Boardman FS Pro: in January sales right now. £1,350
This is - for a bike with an PIKE fork an extremely good price.

http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/mountain-bikes/boardman-mountain-bike-pro-full-suspension-27-5-16-18-19-20-frames

Radon 27.5 PLUS 8.0
https://www.bike-discount.de/en/buy/radon-slide-27-8.0-582642
1.899,- € instead of 2.599,- € (aprox 700 € rebate)
140 mm Pike !!!
13.5 kg
I prefer on a full suspension bike max 2.4 tires. But this PLUS bike might be fun?

Commencal Meta AM HT : great bike!
Jeffsy: great as well - but you are right. Most (all?) are sold out...

If you had a budget of £3000 in mind - you might not like the idea of the Boardman FS Pro. But the Halfords deal £1,350 for a bike with a PIKE sounds very interesting...

Where PLUS tires make a lot of sense: hardtails!

Very nice bike: Merida Big Trail 800
https://www.tredz.co.uk/.Merida-Big-Trail-800-650b-Mountain-Bike-2017-Hardtail-MTB_95812.htm

£1,482.50
big, big fun.

Not a fast racer. But a playful fun bike.
Checked it out at a store nearby. Was really impressed (but have no money right now...).
Possible you find it for less than 1.5k?
130 mm Yari fork
Slack & Long modern PLUS hardtail

In fact, here you go, either of these will be just the job. There’s even another 10% off with the SAVE10 code.

If you can stretch the budget you can have a Four for 2k.

That P7 looks good. Be interested to know how the new P7 29er rides.

If you can get to 2k, the Anthem 1 is a killer deal here. I’ve posted about it a couple of times this past week, as I got one for a load more cash in January from LBS.
