Conti gp 4 seasons in 28mm at whatever price you can get them for.... Brilliant in cold wet slimy conditions.

Got some spare road tyres in the shed? Just fit them. Tricross rides fine on 25 mm tyres.

I haven't got any spare tyres
I'm looking for a new pair as the bridleways are going to be a bog fest for a good while yet

In real terms how much quicker can I expect to be running proper 25mm road tyres compared to 32mm cross hybrid type tyres?
I assume there will be a lot less rolling resistance but will it make that much difference?

There wont be that much less rolling resistance, possibly even more in certain cases like very rough roads.

A 25 or 28 will be a lot lighter though and will feel nicer to ride because of that.

Conti 4 seasons 28c are about 2-3 mph quicker on the road than cx tyres from my experience.
I bought some from probikekit about 3 weeks ago for £55 and should be about 5% coming from tcb in a few months.

It will feel a noticeable bit faster, it won't actually be much faster.
