I have to go on a course next week in Swindon and wondered if there was any good riding near by so that i could take the bike. If you have anything then please let me know.
Thanks
mbswindon have some routes http://www.mbswindon.co.uk/routes/
...or this is very close: http://www.moredirt.co.uk/trail/United-Kingdom_South-West/The-Croft-Trails/277/
The built trail might be a good call as everything I've ridden in the area has been a mud fest with the worlds stickiest, thickest mud when it rains. Not ridden around there for a while, though.
The croft trail looks like a good plan as it isn't that far from the hotel and should be fine for a blast around.
No!
Sorry, but that's the way it is.
Croft trail is not bad but is also muddy in the current summer weather.
From the far end of the croft trail you can hop onto a few bridleways and a cycle track to Malborough which will show you a bit of countryside, but it's not mountain biking.
Hi,
So you have plenty of options, with the Ridgeway and loads of bridle/byways around the area. If you dont mind driving or riding up to Barbury Castle then there are tracks and trails firing off there to keep you busy!
If you get stuck, then get in contact with the MBSwindon boys (via Facebook or Twitter maybe?) who are out almost every day in the week and will happily show you around.
Have fun out there!
West Woods at the end of the Ridgeway are fun, and not too far. Ride the woods for a while, pop out over Pewsey Vale for some nice views if you can get through the stingers.
Ridgeway itself is nice for a trundle if you've not ridden it in a while, Barbury down to Avebury and admire the stones and have a pint in the Red Lion.
No rocks, drop offs or owt like that but plenty of nice riding over the downs, depends what you're looking for.
Bristol (Mendips, Ashton Court)and CwmCarn aren't too far down the M4 should you knock off early either ๐
I cannot believe that no one has suggested behind the Asda in Swindon?

Which Asda (North or West)? and what's behind it then? (apart from trolleys, tramps and discarded needles).
Some lovely wide open spaces and beech wood action up around Bishopstone area. Nice pub, too!
Only a couple of junctions from Lambourn. Some good riding around there and easy tracks to not get lost too.
