Currently I have a wee off road loop that basically passes past flotterstone on way down the road past the reservoir. Usually I just turn left and head back into Edinburgh, but I'm keen to extend the ride by 15-20 miles or so. Anyone know any decent options East of flotterstone that enable me to extend the ride but stay on quiet lanes and gravel tracks?

Make your way to Penicuik and take the old railway track towards Musselburgh

Fortunately I don't have a gravel bike.

Tpbiker - that's my neck of the woods. You can loop into Penicuik as Scotroutes suggests and Penicuik House has recently opened with trails round about for a bit more playing. Then back through Roslin / Bilston onto the cycle path back to Liberton ( and down to Arthurs Seat via little France if you like).

If it works out I can meet up and show you round some stuff (caveat: my time is not always my own these days).

Thanks folks.. Jimmy, I think we met previously when you bought some revs off me? I thought you lived out Balerno way? Would defo take you up on that offer if you are ever going for a ride.

As Jimmy says, there are bits n bobs out that way.

I'm going to use the road up to Gowkley Moss from Colinton, then the Bush area tracks and paths, floterstone, Green Cleugh, into Balerno as a long commute when family permits .

Found a handy path between Hillend and Swanson the other week. Ridden past it for years without realising it was there.
