Hi. As per the title really.
I'm going to Ireland for 2 weeks & can't decide whether to take the bike or not. Are there any trail centres or such like in the Wexford/Waterford area. Thanks. Ian.

go a bit further up to Wicklow and hit ballinastoe and ticknock, great in wet or dry.

Cheers for that, Wicklow looks to be only about a hours drive away from where we're staying.

Hi Saccades, cheers for that, staying in Cullenstown so Bunclody is pretty close. Arrive this weekend. Also planning on doing some walking in the Blackstairs mountains so could use Bunclody as a base for both. What is the terrain like? Thanks Ian.

pretty varied, wicklow mtns, are a like the peak district. most of the rest of the irish stuff is more savage trails in the woods. less obvious as the are few footpaths and no bridalways.

some decent purpose built stuff designed by that welsh fella. dates are no good to me, too short notice otherwise i might have been able to show you around.

Ashamed to say that thats my home town and I´ve never ridden singletrack there.
Been up some dismally short mountains and messed about in a quarry but can´t say as it left me with any lasting impressions bikewise.

+1 for Ballinastoe ride it regular very good with fast singletrack, I run a Maxxis Advantage front and an Ardent Exo rear as it is quite rocky in places, the locals if any about will possibly take you over the mountain where you ride along sleepers over the bogs and onto some other local trails that loop back to Ballinastoe, no showers or cafe at trail head but local village Enniskerry has some superb eateries. DO NOT LEAVE VALUABLES N CAR! Also Powerscourt Estate nearby, good day out for family

Having taken my one-week-old, pride-and-joy, first-car-I-ever-owned-less-than-10-years-old over there, and come back to a ****ing mess - can I just second the point above.

DO NOT LEAVE VALUABLES IN CAR

You could always get other half to drop you off and then she could entertain herself in the village , you can easily cycle the road to the village when you're done.

Out of curiosity - where and when were you parked? Ballinstoe main car park?

Never had a problem myself, but I have heard of occasional incidents - although the only valuable thing I leave in the car would be a set of clean scruffy clothes.

jacksonwwirl

I haven´t been to either of those but thats because the last time I lived there was over 20 years ago. I moved to Galway, bought a better bike and found a few Connemara routes.

Have long since moved from there to the Basque country and found bike paradise.

I would like to take the bike home for a week and do justice to my roots 😉

Cheers for all your advice people. Unfortunately I've damaged the hanger on my usual bike so I've had to brIng my singlespeed, which isn't great for the mountains.
On a positive note, What a lovely place Ireland is & the people are so friendly, everyone smiles & says hello.
To all the Irish people on here, thank you for such a lovely place.
