[#12769582]

Hi, I'll have a bike to build up soon. I assumed it would be easy to get the required parts together but it seems like groupset availability is back to being poor again.

Has anyone spotted any deals on Shimano 12 speed groupsets? Preferably Deore or SLX.

Brakes looks like being a pain too. I've seen the Hayes thread. Any bargain Formula Cura 4s to be had?

Tyres also look to be difficult! Was hoping for contis new offerings.

Whole group sets as a deal generally haven’t been easy to come by since Covid - other than the occasional sram sx / nx deal.

I’d just shop around and find the best price on each component and get it that way personally. Slx cassettes generally don’t seem to get cheaper than £100 for the 10-51, you sometimes get deals on the 10-45 I think it is because not many people want the lower range.

Chain wise I’d personally get better than an slx chain - cheaper chains seem to surface rust quicker / easier. I don’t actually like Shimano chains so would pick up a gold kmc x12 or sram xx1 personally.

If you can get an slx crankset without a ring I’d consider going for an aftermarket ring as the Shimano chainrings can disintegrate. My mate thought his bb was really shot but it turned out 3 of the 4 rivets that hold the chainring together had failed. Heard a few people having this issue.

@joebristol that's probably the best way forward. Means I can go 165mm cranks, upgrade to XT shifter and, as you say, a better chain. Will start searching. Thanks for the sensible suggestion!

We've had the flappy chainring thing too! I'm not sure how my son got back off the hill with only one rivet left without a major crash. He rides his bike like he doesn't pay for spare parts so it didn't occur to him to stop and see what the funny noise might have been....

Biketart have the XT mech slightly cheaper than the SLX above - GS and SGS versions on their site:

£68.95 for XT M8100 rear mech in both SGS and GS, free postage, bargain, ordered, nice one. Worth it's own PSA.

If you're happy to go SRAM I've got a full NX one that I've been too idle to put up for sale yet!

I would do this:
NX £200
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225466051279?hash=item347ed2eacf:g:bgcAAOSwmCJjKyrs

Brakes £54
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225462399661?hash=item347e9b32ad:g:YOgAAOSwjIJkA4F6

Then buy the cheap SLX shifter and the XT mech and sell the new NX shifter and mech as a pair for around £65/£70.
