Is there any spitfire owners in the north of England who have a small or medium that I could have a wee sit on? Il gladly meet you at your nearest trail (centre) when your next out for a ride. My heart has chosen the spit as my next bike but I'm slap bang between the two sizes. The nearest shop is in Edinburgh. If ihave to make the trip up I will have to take the missus too and that will greatly increase the cost of the whole thing! Your generosity will be gladly repaid in caffeine, confectionary, patisserie or alcohol of your choice! (Maybe not an 18yr old whisky!) Thanks loads guys and gals.

Sorry, wrong end of the country! How tall are you? What are your local trails like?

North East (between Toon and Hexham, but work in Barnard Castle. I bought a large after having a medium Spesh FSR. Tried it out before I chose and it's spot on for me.

Are you anywhere near Gravitate in Newcastle?

Thanks for the responses guys. If cycle works in York does them then I'm on to a winner. I can try gravitate too as I can combine that with a hamsters trip next time the weather is grotty. It's to replace a five which the forks have gone on. It's the last of the straight steerers so I can t find any decent big stanchion forks left. I want something that's a little longer but still flickable. I've got a c456 for all days out. It just needs to do winch and plummet, lakes and scotland big mountain stuff and a week in the Alps. Heard that they are good at winching with no Bob and excel down the other side. How do you lot get on with them?

I know you'd appreciate an in depth tech review but all I can say, for now, is that its the best bike I've ever ridden 😀 There are loads of rider reviews on singletrack and this forum will give you a taste: http://forums.mtbr.com/banshee-bikes/

it will excel on all big mountain stuff. I saw a guy rippin down super morzine on a red 2012 one when I was last over there.

it sounds weird but it doesn't seem that compromised between the old and new wheel sizes either

Have you tried EDS bikes near Scarborough? I got my spitfire from there last year and they had a small demo bike back then, it was actually the owners wife's bike so he'll probably still have it.

I have a Banshee Rune in Large, size wise it is marginally bigger (in feel anyway) to the 18inch Alpine 160 I had previous.

If you have a Small C456 then go for the Medium Spitfire.

And how do I found it. It is absolutely no lie I love it. I had various threads on here before buying one including my demo at Edinburgh. review here

I've now done 160 miles in the last 8 weeks of owning it and its is brilliant. I am a trail rider and it pedals like a beast even when fully open and I hate bikes that bob. And the horrid line that it pedals light is true. I am not the gnarliest but it has already made me faster up and down and the rougher it gets the better it gets.

Downside, I notice more pedal strikes but that is coming from a Nicolai with a very high BB. But I am getting the hang of it. Also have it 2x10 which has taken some getting used to. That's me not the frame.

I have properly fallen in love. Its a much better bike than I am rider but you'd genuinely have to prise it out of my cold dead hands.

Ha Ha ahsat. That's probably how I'd describe my love affair with my Spitty.

I've had it for a year now and there's nothing out there I'd consider changing it for because it's just that good. It climbs well and descends brilliantly, I just need to get better at riding it down hill faster 😆
