I always buff my helmet these days, keeps my thinning bonce warm in winter and stops sweat dripping into my eyes in summer.
Can't say I have ever noticed it being smelly but then again, I do own soap and a shower and have a good wife with a washing machine!

I've been given that many free ones at races over the years i take out 3 or 4 in my pack and change em or use me for snot rags if needed.. buy a bufff... never
