You know, the ones with the fins?
Not keen on spending £25 for pads again - superstar have the pic on the 'pad selector' image, but none for sale...

No one as far as I know. Be interested if you find any, be good for my Italy trip.
I have the superstar non finned ones and they are going fine so far.

Plus 1 for the superstars......lasting well so far too and cheap! Think it was 4 pairs for less than £25. Have used the sintered ones over winter to survive the grinding paste of Cannock and they have outlasted the original shimano metal ones.

I've found that my shimano finned ones are kaput after only 5-6 rides!!
Oh well, superstar here I come (I think I'll only get fins for the alps TBH...)

As far as I know Shimano have a patent on the finned pads. So unless someone comes up with a clever work around on this it'll only be non finned aftermarket pads that are available for these brakes. Which is of course assuming Shimano don't license the design out seeing as well that outcome is pretty unlikely.

yeah I think they are patented - tbh I think that's a bit crazy as it's an obvious invention to me but hey, the patent thing confuses the cr@p out of me.

Maybe someone could do an ice-tech refurb service to get around it? ie you send in your old shimano pads and in exchange get a set back with new braking surface bonded on.

I'd have thought they're only necessary when there's a major chance of overheating, and that ordinary pads would be OK otherwise

)or are they uniquely shaped too ?)

Errr, that's why it's patented! Otherwise everyone will say "that's a good idea, let's do a rival for 1/3 the price" and no one buys Shimano.

FWIW Ice Tech is about the rotor with the aluminium cores, not the pads.

I imagine so too.
I've ordered SS ones now anyway.
The only time I think (for me) they'd kick a$$ would be big alpine descents where I've noticed an 'F1 car' style glow to the pad/rotor halfway down (usually followed by a severe brake failure.....!!!)

I'm using the Disco Pads instead of SS as i still don't trust their pads after i had one fall apart on a ride (i know they are meant to be better now but i've had no problems with Disco Pads and they are just as cheap if not cheaper).
