I'm torn. Always loved this,
A pearlescent white, with a smoke over blue metallic. 89 Ascent EX

Then again, the elegant simplicity of an early 90s Breezer,

But, there's this as well,

Oddly, this is the bike that got me thinking about this. From the Spesh MixTape collection, looks ace, IMHO.

Let the bickering commence!

I always liked the lovely simplicity of the translucent green Stanton Switchback.

Obviously ignore the gopping bars, and white forks never look good. The frame though. Gorgeous. No fancy schmancy fades or nothing, just great.

However, Production Privee Shan Gulf for the win.

Followed closely by the Production Privee Shan GT.

😉

The Stanton green is indeed lovely. Simple, but lovely.

However, I'm very much a form follows function sort of person, so this is my favourite.

Fat Chance Harlequin.

And why no "This paint job? Why yes, yes, it is" thread title?

That Production Privee Shan GT is gorgeous.

I hated my first GT, but I have to admit that those early 90s paint jobs with the splattered effect they used on many of their models, garnered a lot of admiration from people when I went riding.

Not my bike
NOTE: That is not neither my bike, nor my photograph.

Looking at that Stanton above, and browsing the Stanton site earlier in the week - they do a terrible job as a company of showing off their frames, don't they?

They offer custom paint as a £150 upcharge on their frames, but the only hint at what the colout looks like is a little matt square on the site that you click to pick the colout, no corresponding photos. They really could benefit from the professional Cotic style gallery shots. They're lovely looking bikes, they should take advantage of the fact.

Shan - mehhhh, Gulf colours were undeniably cool, but it's a bit like a Ferrari fleece gilet. They've been plastered on everything over the years, to try and prove a point I just googled "Gulf racing condoms", actually they don't exist so there's a market opportunity for someone!

The rocky mountain is nice, but even with the old school head angle, it looks like the forks are bent backwards.

I must admit I've always liked the simplicity of the Bontrager's.

But always liked the original Orange clockwork.

Peacock groove or groovey cycleworks for some amazingly loud but amazeballs paint jobs. English cycles for lovely subtle classy stuff

Those 90s bikes are gaudy and gopping. Nothing arty about it - just pick two loud colours and fade them. It's hardly art.

I saw lots of original clockworks - that was the worst painjob they did IMO. Even plain orange was better. My mate had a nickel plated one, but I preferred black.

Still the 1989 Kona Cinder Cone or Explosif, for me. Not an original choice I know but graphically / logo use and position plus that paint, all just ground-breaking imo. Stunning looking bikes. That it was on top of such a nicely proportioned frameset was a bonus, but Brodies had already done that.

Quite a fan of the BD Axis smoke finish also.

I love the 80s and 90s bikes, especially the Breezer, Fat Chance, Marin and Klines but I think I’m reminiscing about those bikes and not just their paint jobs. The Stanton looks great and that pic alone is making me consider one!

^^^ That NS is lurvely. 👌

A lot of the bikes here would do well in a 'most amount of paint ever' thread rather than 'best paint ever' thread... 😂

I also remember a deep orange Soulcraft with glitter that I thought was amazing.
If I ever repaint a bike, it will be that deep orange glitter or candy red metallic.

Klein Attitude all day long, the pink/purple/blue/brown (depends on light) pearlescent one. Mrs Tyred has one - I'd always always wanted one and when I finally got a mint condition frame, it was heartbreakingly too small for me. So lovely.

I also have a Joe Murray splatter paint Cindercone frame, but sadly it doesn't look much like scotroutes' one these days. One of these days I'll get round to restoring it to its former glory.

The only paint job I recall going "ooh" over was something in a dark translucent red. Can't remember what it was though.
NS Surge Evo is the best on here. I remember seeing Kleins back in the day and they were just a bit too "HEY, look at my expensive bike!"

Those old Corratecs certainly made a statement too! Ugly beast so pic not added to thread 😆

Yeah, I'm voting for the Klein in fade as well.

Not only superb bikes, but they seem to have made an iconic paint job too.. I owned an Attitude, it got nicked... bastards.

Also,

Fat Chance Yo' Eddy. Simple, yet effective.
