Unfortunatley this is going to be hard to write without people searching for the thread in question.
I am looking for a light as an upgrade for the p7 I am currently using.
Someone in the classifieds is selling a light suitable so I emailed him and offered on it even though it says no offers(you have to try!)
I got a reply back basically getting called a "messer" so after thinking about it overnight I emailed the chap in question and offered his asking.
I paid this morning thinking it would be getting posted out today onky to get an email saying he cant post until saturday which I feel is a bit of a poor show.!!
If the person in question had told me this before paying then I wouldnt have agreeed to buy as I can source a light locally well before the weekend when I go away with work for 2 weeks and wanted to take my bike with me.
I have emailed asking for a refund as I think its a bit gash but had no replies yet.
I know I will probably get flamed for not waiting but after the way this lad has spoke to me in his earlier emails Im not arsed...
What do you think ?
He's posting it within 3-4 working days which I think is fine, maybe he'd been getting a few time wasting enquiries and was just fed up.
I think it's fair for you to wait till he can get to the post office (some people work during PO opening hours and can't get to one at lunchtime you know!). You have a light after all to get you by for now, no?
i had this recently with a pair of Alpinestars boots, took best part of 2 weeks.
Luckily it's winter so it never mattered... but as it's Tues i'd be pissed if i wasn't told in advance.
There is no plausible excuse for not being able to get to a post office the day after...unless you live in the Outer Hebridies or something.
If he says he can't post it till saturday and you emailed him today then you've effectively cancelled the purchase and he should give a full refund.
Thats what I think
Well regardless of acceptable delivery times, he hasn't posted it yet so it's fine to ask for a refund if you've changed your mind. He hasn't lost anything at all.
glasgowdan.... saturday is 5 days away so wont recieve until mid next week.
If he had been upfront and told me he couldnt post until the weekend I wouldnt of bought it!
There is no plausible excuse for not being able to get to a post office the day after
Of course there is.
Let's not forget, you're not dealing with a retailer, you're dealing with joe public. If you need to know when someone can post or need it quickyl, ask them before you buy!
The reason he gave is that "as of this morning I am away with work"
I sold some bars recently and couldnt get to the post office for a few days so told the chap before he bought them which I think is the right way to do it.
refund if you are not happy.
i seld two items today, and they are on their way to the buyers as week speak... 8)
you should have discussed this before hand but I would both refund and ask for one
If I was in a rush for something I'd specify before handing over my money.
Usually though if something arrives within the week I'm cool with that.
I think you need more reasonable expectations of people.
And if you don't like how someone comes across in their communication, don't give them your money.
If you know you arent going to be able to post something for nearly a week then shouldnt you let potential buyers know beforehand?
Having done a quick and not particularly difficult bit of forum research, I'd say that neither of you have covered yourselves in glory.
renton you're not even going to be here next week so whether it takes a week or 2.5 weeks doesn't really matter does it? If you want something immediately then you must make that clear at the onset and before you pay. i.e. if I NEEDED something by 5 days I'd make an offer and say clearly that I'll buy it IF they can post it to me in the next day or two.
Like I say, you already have a light so you CAN take your bike with you for the 2 weeks away with work, right?
This is just a classifieds, people forget that some folk have to work. There's no presumed next day service here!

What are you talking about? If you get 30 mins for lunch, and you live 12 minutes walk away from a post office where there are going to be long queues, it is NOT feasible to post things during the week! Some people even work 7-7 and don't get to leave the office!
I think it's unacceptable to come at you after the fact with the "I can't post till x"
Classifieds only poster perchance?
And if you don't like how someone comes across in their communication, don't give them your money.
this, I think if the first response was a bit offhand then that's probably how the whole transaction will be.
Having said that the number of people who've said they'll buy stuff off me recently only to be never heard of again has to be seen to be believed.
glasgowdan.....
I needed it before next week as I am taking my bike away with me for two weeks and was planning on catching up with a couple of mates and doing a few night rides at cannock.
my p7 light is broke hence why I was asking if it is compatable with the p7 battery.
IHN.. care to explain bud?

Couldn't agree more. It's only a couple of days, plenty of people would struggle to get to a post office during the week. Only recently has one opened reasonably near me that's open outside 9-5, and even that one's a drag to get to and use (mainly because it always has 500 people in the queue who can only get to the post office outside 9-5)
If you want express delivery, go to a shop or at least discuss it first, don't presume it from a classifieds sale.
jota ...... mainly yes.
To be honest after the attitude of the chap in person in his first email to me then I wish I handt bothered now.
Ok im off the mark for dibbsing and offering below asking on a no offers ad to.
If you didn't clarify it before buying then there is little to complain about really.
As above, you're dealing with Joe public not a retailer and people have different lives and patterns that mean he may not be near a post office.
northwind that works both ways though..... he shouldnt presume Im happy to wait until the weekend before he can post..
It's a good thing neither of you needed a kidney transplant.
lol @ hels...
I can see both sides but its wound me up a bit !!!!
I dont agree five days is taking the piss. Its not like Post offices are a rare thing.Get the money out goes the item its not rocket science.Hay ho.
I wouldn't bother, the same person replied to one of my FS addys (ages ago) saying they'd take the item, then didn't bother to pay or reply to any messages when I tried to find out what was gong on, just went quiet..
But you should have walked away at the first snotty reply IMO...
I realise that now Khani !!! Im still kicking myself now
Lesson learned, and another one on.. the list ..
IHN.. care to explain bud?
Well, IMHO obviously
1) Initial ad sounds a bit pi$$y/off-hand (these pics will do, no offers etc)
2) Calling you a messer for making an offer is a bit pi$$y (either accept, reject, or ignore an offer, no need for name calling)
3) You weren't clear that you needed it by the weekend before you agreed to the sale
4) He didn't make it clear that he couldn't post before the weekend (not that I have a particular problem with that TBH)
5) You're whining on here, and on the sale thread, because you've not had a response to a mail you sent today. He may be busy.
At this point, if I were him, I'd post it at the weekend and you could jog on if you want a refund.
All IMHO, obviously
I wouldn't expect a classifieds seller to post next day, I think weekend is reasonable. If I wanted something quickly I would have asked before handing over my money if they could get it in the post a bit sharpish for me.
If I was the seller I would be taking even longer to post it now.
Also, if someone specifically states "no offers" and you make an offer, that makes you a "messer". Dont be offended or surprised if they get pissed off.
And if you don't like how someone comes across in their communication, don't give them your money.this, I think if the first response was a bit offhand then that's probably how the whole transaction will be
Agreed.
And for some of us it is a bit of an expedition to get to a post office, we don't all live in towns with one on every street corner you know. Retailer posting within 5 days probably isn't on but for a classified sale I can't see an issue, would be nice if he had mentioned it though.
Moral? If you don't like the sound of someone don't deal with them.
The reason he gave is that "as of this morning I am away with work"
which may also explain why he's not responded to an email sent today?
Buying off the classifieds I'd just assume it could take up to a couple of weeks to arrive, if I needed it before then I'd ask the seller before purchasing. However if, as a seller, the buyer was expecting it sooner than I could deliver and this became apparent after the transaction had taken place then I'd be fine with refunding as it's only costing me a bit more hassle (reposting the ad).
renton - Membernorthwind that works both ways though..... he shouldnt presume Im happy to wait until the weekend before he can post..
Disagree, you're presuming a professional level of service from a private sale. Your expectation wasn't unreasonable but it's also not something you can take for granted- and his delivery time isn't exceptional so no particular reason he should have highlighted it.
TBH - if I had stuff to sell and couldn't post till the weekend, I wouldn't put it up on the Classifieds on Monday/Tuesday, I'd wait till Thursday.

so you can take 10-20 mins in total to clean the thing your selling, take photos of it, write a description, write and respond to emails, take the persons money
but cant take 5 mins out of your 'busy' day to pop to a post office?!
niceeeeee, i always do my upmost to get stuff out when i sell usually the next workind day, as, i reallise when people pay for things with their hard earned i know they would kinda like it... i work 9-5 and have a busy work/social/riding life and always manage it, some people are just pure lazy
if for some odd reason i couldnt get to a post office before selling id let the buyer know, but even then its a max of 2 days
The point Im trying to get across is that it would of been nice to be told he cant post until the weekend before I handed over my cash.
yes you are right I am whinging on here(like many others have before me)
He was quick enough to reply this morning to me when i emailed him to say payment sent!
And you are right to wind me up even more he will probably take even longer before posting now.
And if you needed it before the weekend you should have said...
I can honestly say that with everything Ive sold on here if I couldnt post out straight away I have always let the buyerr know before he/she hands over their cash!
out of courtesy really isnt it!
FWIW I expect sellers to post on the following Saturday, and would hope others expect the same of me, anything sooner is a bonus. Folk have lives/jobs.
IHN I agree with you!!
It would of been nice to be told firsthand so I could make the decision to hand my cash over or not

and this +1
when I'm selling I tend to get stuff posted asap but I recently had to wait for a couple of days to get a suitable box to put something in.
it's tricky but I'm not CRC etc and I'd expect a buyer to be prepared to wait a few days before I despatched stuff uiless they specifically said they wanted it sooner during negotiations and I'd make a judgement as to whether I could meet their expecations.
