my route home runs along the severn way and just outside of newtown the route goes past a pump house,
at the one end is an unofficial sign asking riders to dismount.
Now i've never dismounted but always slow to walking pace or less, even when there is no one about.
new owners have moved in and i've said morning a couple of times but never got a reply.
anyway friday going home the bloke is out sweeping grass of the path so i slow right down and when he sees me coming he slows his sweeping and seems to delibrately stand in the middle of the path.
As i draw near he says, "can you see the signs" to which i reply, without stopping as i think its best to avoid an arguement, " yes, apologies i thought i was going slow enough to avoid causing offence"
"your not causing offence" was his reply.
So as i'm riding away i'm thinking,"so whats the ****ing problem then?"
all weekend its been bugging me and i just feel like delibrately ignoring the sign now on principal and just telling him to prove the signs are enforceable or bog off.
This is on a path that is used alot by allsorts of people so if this bloke doesnt like people coming past he's in for a shock.
Yes i should have dismounted when i saw them there but why cant people live and let live and as long as your dont doing anyone else harm whats the problem?
unofficial sign asking riders to dismount
if cycling is permitted on this route, and you're going slowly enough not to endanger anyone, do what you like and tell him to bugger off
Unofficial sign, = jobsworth= ignore him and sign, or just say your Polish and cant read english.
+1 on the Polish thing, ask his if he knows where you can find some Swans for enhanced effect.
