I've had BC membership for years for the Halfords 10% off, with the 3rd party insurance cover as a nice 'extra'.

Last week they refused to apply the discount and said I needed to print off a voucher, and now I've got a renewal letter for my membership.

The discount is now for cycling related purchases only (most of my purchases are vehicle related) and is not applicable to sale items unless part of a national campaign (I can see that causing some discussions at the till) and although the BC site say you can print off the voucher and use it repeatedly through the month, the voucher itself states single use on the front.  I've never used the CRC discount but at least its just a few clicks to generate a code to use online and can be done during the purchase!

I still like the 3rd party insurance cover but I reckon I'd be lucky to see any savings at Halfords anymore if I can't use it on fun stuff like rolling tool cabinets and shiny breaker bars.

Any suggestions for alternative cover?  CyclingUK is the only obvious one that comes to mind although its a tad more expensive (does come with 6 mags a year though)

CyclingUK - they work hard to make your life as a cyclist a better one.

Note: The open access laws in Scotland are thanks to the CyclingUK.

I would love to ditch BC as well. I’ll have a nose at Cycling UK.

It's Cycling UK (CTC of old) I'll be heading to once my BC membership runs out. They also have quite a good forum which works pretty well...

I noticed the new Halfords terms yesterday too. Makes the discount practically useless in the grand scheme of things. And didn't CRC used to be 10% on orders over £100? Now £10 on orders over £150.

I'll probably stick to BC for the race stuff, but other than that there are no real benefits any more. Would rather go CTC personally (it pains me a little they changed the name, because the history of it made it kinda cool)

I used my BC discount to buy a scooter in Halfords yesterday. Not sure if a scooter is classed under the heading ‘cycling’ but I’d assume not?!

i handed the lady my BC card, she said I need a code now so I logged on to my BC account, got the code on my phone, she zapped it and I got the 10% discount ...

Thats handy to know they'll dot that Stox, especially as it turns out CyclingUK do the 10% Halfords discount, with the same recent changes.  Annoying that the staff didn't tell me they could take the code from my phone!

So it sounds like these are the options for CyclingUK membership:

Buy membership for £46.50.

Get someone to buy me a gift membership for £46.50 that comes with a mystery branded gift worth up to £28.

Or, it sounds like current members have a special offer on gift membership (I'm guessing this is a discount, and perhaps a lesser or no free gift.

Any existing subscribers care to take a look for me?  Thanks.
