Anyone got one and have the same issue?
Even with almost nothing in it, or loaded up, it slips sideways on the top tube and gets in the way of my knees.
Now, I've failed to attach Alpkit bike luggage properly before (the Kanga/tyre.Pike interface debacle), so maybe I'm just being a bit dim.
I've got the velcro strap split into 3.
1 part from the front of the bag and round the steerer spacers. Other two parts connect bottom of bag and are velcroed tight around the top tube, one at the front, one at the back of the bag.
It does seem that the loops on the bag are tightly attached to the top tube, but the bag moves with the slack between them and the bottom of the bag.
Maybe need some kind of sticky tape across the top of the top tube? Or should I send it back and get something else?
I've the medium and it does the same especially if you've a round top tube - I don't have much problem when it's attached to my Solaris for example but on my commuters it does exactly as you describe.
Either get some sticky backed velcro or velcro One-wrap and attach it to the underside of the top tube so that the velcro wraps can attach to it. Or fix some Hypalon material to the bottom of the bag so that it can grip the tube.
I think it also depends on the angle of the steerer tube, and how much the headset sticks out etc.
You could try it at the back of the top tube, with a strap around the seatpsot.
I have the same issue with my medium sometimes. The problem is partly not being able to get enough tension in the straps so I use ladderlock straps sometimes instead of the velcro so you can pull more tension into it.
It helps if you have more spacers under the stem, or spare steerer above it for the front strap to go round.
As Bob says, something grippy round the tube or underneath the bag is the best solution.
Although the supplied Velcro straps are actually very good, I found they still slipped on my top tube.
I found I needed something wrapped around the top tube to help the straps "grip" and not slide around. Bit of inner tube works, then I got some grip-tape which holds it securely.
Also don't overload the bag or it'll just slip to one side.
Step 1. Two bits of sticky velcro on the sides of the top tube, just wide enough apart so they have a gap the width of the webbing between them. The straps lock onto the velcro so it cannot move.
Step 2. Add a loop of cord/old shoe lace that fits tightly from the top of the bag's webbingย and loop it around any spacers that sit above the stem. I leave my steerers cut long enough to allow the extra spacers.
The shape of the front of the top tube bag has changed in the last year or two - I don't think the newer version sits so well against the headset as the older one does.
The problem lies in the ladder webbing along the base of the bag - both versions have the same - the material is too stiff and slippy which is why I mentioned putting hypalon along the bottom. A bit of inner tube stitched or glued on there would go a long way to solve things.
I've got my at the seat tube end and it done the same , I just wrapped some old inner tube along the top tube before I fitted it and it seems to have stopped it slipping
You want one of DrJon's dwidgets: http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/bentley-components-gas-tank-bag-mount-the-dwidget/
I've got one. it works.
Yeh I had the same issue, tried grip tape under the straps which made it slightly better.ย I ended up selling it on eBay though as it's suqintyness annoyed me.
Thanks for the tips
I managed to get the straps at the front around the steerer above below the stem and with an extra bit of velcro linking them diagonally, and it is staying put well now.
Getting it above and below the stem seems to be the key
I had this problem with a medium, I found it was really sensitive to the position of the strap that goes around the steerer.ย I moved mine to the highest point on the bag, so it pulls down a bit, aswell as forward, and that seems to have sorted it
Just ignore where it's 'supposed' to go...

Try it at the seatpost / top tube junction instead. Much more secure.
