As above.
Not sure copper slip is going to be the answer this time around! ๐
yup.
Use the proper stuff. Worth it.
Cheers squire.
When you say proper stuff do you mean carbon paste over copper slip or is there a specific brand I should look for?
the proper carbon stuff. I use the finishline stuff but I don't have any preference, was just what I could get at the time. Really does help reduce the clamping force needed too. Just apply a really thin smear - not too much. A thin layer will be less likely to scratch the post if you move it a lot.
Not copper slip as the base used in copper slip can swell plastics. As I found with rear drum cylinder seals after being told to use copper slip by a dealer I worked in as a kid. Now I use stuff I know is safe on brake seals and save the copper slip for metal only parts.
Thank you again.
Will see if the LBS stocks it.
Have also heard that toothpaste works ....... ๐
๐ I can see the thinking - especially whitening with crystals in and should work as an emergency measure. But being water based I suspect it will just wash down the seat tube and you will have to keep applying it and get a nice minty residue down inside your frame!
I suspect you can make your own with a bit of silicone grease and some very fine silica (sand) but for the sake of trying it and getting a too sharp sand and scratching the crap out of your post it's probably not worth it.
Get a can of cheap hair spray and spray the post. (I am being serious)
Normal petroleum based grease can cause carbon to swell, so its worth using the right stuff.
Having seized a carbon post in an ally frame a few years ago (as in frame no longer useable) I have since bought a little tub.
DO IT!
You know it makes sense.
also if you use anti slip paste it means you dont tighten it so hard to stop it slipping and cause damage to the post
