Did a nice road spin round the Lancs/Yorks Dales yesterday so today decided to chill out and service my rear shock on my Wolf Ridge....

That was about 4hrs ago, just managed to get the soddin' shock back in that damned frame! At one point i was ready to smash the whole bike to bits with a hammer it was so bloody difficult to get it back together. Trying to line up the frame, the swingarm, the shock mounts and those horrible horrible washers sent me into a full on swearing fit that i reckon was heard halfway down the main road ๐Ÿ˜ณ

OK, bike back together but the air can on the shock just spins, it holds pressure, no bubbles when i checked with washing up liquid etc but it seems that the top part of the air can just spins and doesn't 'nip up' with the shock body whilst the lower part of the air can (RP23) is stationary.

Have i bolloxed it ?

Isn't that just so you can line the logo on the shock up with the frame? There should be something you can tighten up properly.

I must tightened it properly, its working and there's no air leakage so..

Just seems odd.

TBH i'll pay someone next time its such a pain!

It's not just the outer sleeve on a HV shock is it?

Er, it might be, its the High Volume RP23 ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Right, thats the shock. Forks now off the bike and packed up ready for J-Tech to fettle. Going to be an expensive week..

IMHO forks are easier to do than shocks. Or have you just had enough now?!

Rear shocks are a pain...I've a Wolf Ridge and spent three minutes trying to set the RP23 dial from "3" to "1".

I love the suspension, but tuning the shock is a PITA of epic proportions.

TBH i've never stripped a set of forks, and the mood i was in after the shock i wouldn't have trusted myself not to completely wreck them!

Doing the actual air can service is a doddle, its the putting of the shock back into the frame thats a real bitch! It's a small frame, so there's really no room to work.

Currently drinking pear cider and vowing someone else can do it next time!
