and bought an e-bike.
to be fair i said a similar thing about 29ers for quite a while. anyway..its complicated.
what i have noticed though is that it needs a decent down hill to be faster than a normal bike, anything slightly uphill though and it is obviously quicker.
and lastly, for those who care, when it comes to the new Fox 38 believe the hype, its sensational!

So far I've found my ebike to be the same speed downhill as my normal bike, but considerably quicker on flat and (not surprisingly) up hills.

Think it also depends on the bikes. My ebike is quite light, a Spesh Levo SL, so often on the flat and certainly on descents the assist is off. I find it a lot quicker than previous bikes, probably largely as it has 150mm travel both ends so I am less likely to pull the brakes so much !

i find i hit the limiter at which point the weight holds me back compared to a normal bike. but the speed you can shuttle back up makes it worthwhile.

Getting ready with my lad at Farmer John's this morning we watched a young lad going up and down the new line at the start and we both said, this is the perfect place for an ebike. If i stumble across a vast pot of cash two electric downhill bikes will be purchased 🙂

Nice bike. That will be tonnes of fun.

That's my main obstacle. I can't just buy one, I'll need two. Unless I just buy the bike I want and a tow rope for the mrs.

Just use your MX bike. Apparently that's all an eBike is anyway.

I thought this when I first got mine, but then I realised that because of the electrical assist you can get away with being in a much higher gear than you should be in, but then when the assist cuts out you don't have the power in just your legs to turn the gear and it feels like the bike is too heavy. But if you consciously keep it in a gear you can spin easily, then you can keep it accelerating past the motor cutout and it feels pretty much like a normal bike.

I am generally ambivalent about ebikes, but went to Llandegla yesterday and got really annoyed by ebikes harassing me up the steep bits. Clearly I was annoying them by getting in their way.

What do you do ?

Should there be ebike days and non-ebike days ?

Ps. Nice bike.

I’d suggest not being a tit days and idiots days. Some riders have always been faster than others, it’s just how you go about over taking someone.

This is a crap new bike thread due to lack of pictures

Plus the lack of outraged people pointing out that it's cheating because you haven't earned your fun so the moral balance of the universe will be thrown off and Jesus will be spinning in his grave. Will never get past one page unless we have pictures of a shocking lawn and garden or some outraged old-school purists.

I like ebikes , as the wife has one. No more moaning after 5 miles of being knackered. No more wondering where she is , as she's on my tail !. No more thinking of routes with less climbs. No more excuses for her. Its my problem now keeping up on the climbs .
It is a great machine and when my knees start to scream, I will have one too.

Really, if I am the faster rider I'll hang back a bit and let a slower rider pull over when they can. If I am the slower rider I'll pull over when I can. If I am the slower rider and have say my son in front finding a safe place to stop may take longer.
