Afan 'extreme' duathlon - Bike Choice Dilemma

So, I'm entered into this duathlon. I'm not completely familiar with  the trails, but have done whites level and quite a few others around the area. But this was on my old jeffsy, which pedalled much better than the bird does.

With the nice choice of two bikes I could take;

My bird Aeris9 with 170mm Zebs/Coils/ex511 etc. (Enduro bike, clearly)

Or a Trek Procaliber hardtail. XC bike obviously, much lighter and faster. But not once it starts getting bumpy when pointing downwards.

The trek is much faster going up, the bird much faster going down.

The trails look to include Piccadilly• Nant- Y-Bar• Tramway• 373• Rhiwgregan.

Any advice or thoughts?

I did it on a Scott Scale. If it’s the same course as 2 years ago (parts of Yr Wal), you won’t need a big bike.

From my experience of off road duathlons if you have any experience of mountain biking you will be a riding god on the downhill. I certainly felt that way, however I was not a running or riding uphill god.

So in short, take the HT and "embrace the race"

Have fun.

I've ridden Afan on a SS Inbred (it was horrid, but I got around Skylark or whatever its called) as @si77 you don't need a big bike for it. I think I'd rather have the light bike for climbing

Deleted as I misread and thought you said you'd be doing Whites

Hardtail will be fine, I've been round most of the Afan/Glyncorwygg trails on a fully rigid bike as the other cycling masochists have😂
