I've now recovered from my calf injury with 19 dayss to go to my full marathon. I've run 20 or so miles each of the last 2 weeks Ok at easy-ish pace - 7:45-10m miles according to how I've felt. Previous to early Feb I'd done a couple of months and up to 12 mile runs at 9m mile, all felt fine (had chest infection then calf strain).

With 19 days to go I am thinking fit in a 12-15 and then 20 mile run, ~9 days' rest, a bit of physio 5 days prior to event, and on top of that 2-4 faster shorter runs and a few 5 mile plods to work and back to help get used to the pounding.

In a way it doesn't matter as I plan to take it easy on the day, but I'd like to prepare as best I can.

Your thoughts?

With that sort of prep and this close to the race I'd bin the 20 miler - do something a bit shorter instead. The amount of benefit you'll get from it doesn't compare to the risk of injury/fatigue you can't easily get over - if you can do a 20 mile training run, you can run the marathon, so what's the point? Just do a bit more shorter faster stuff and loads of stretching.

Check streetview of the route, so ye can pinpoint emergency walls along the route........close to fag shops makes it easier as well.

Actually aracer makes my point well.

Better to get used to distance or speed (accepting that you can't train your body other than getting it used to something in the time available)
