The hardtail would probably cost just over a grand to replace at the moment, so rather than keep it with me in a rough area I'm thinking of buying a second bike which i wouldnt be so heart broken if it were nicked.

Trouble is by the time ive looked at whats out there and what i'd like this second bike may well end up being nicer than the hardtail (curenty looking at old'er stumpjumer FSR's and trance's). Neither of which would probably go un-noticed in the s***hole i live.

So the question is, do you hav a sentimental attachment to one of your bikes, or would you be equaly gutte if eny were to be stolen?

Problem is, ive got a cheep'n'crap road bike which i'm worried i'll become atached to as well!

Don't get a Specialized if you are worried about it getting nicked. Seem to be popular with scallies I suppose because they are the best known quality mountain bike brand.

ohh on the subject of nicked bies, if anyones missing a 222 or a carbon scott genius, theyr both in reading town center somwhere.

and no before ayone pipes up, the riders were not the kind of people who had saved up hard for them.

i know where you're coming from 'spoon, and yes, my Pace is dearer to me than any other bike and id be proper crying in the corner if it was to be stolen, whereas the others im not too fussed, even though theyre all insured.

I don't have a sentimental attachment to any possession. Sure I love riding bikes but FFS, a bike is just a series of metal tubes that can be replaced with better ones in exchange for money.

I wouldn't cry that much after mu Crosslight as it was cheap and basically saved me more on my bus passes than I paid for it.

Another thing is my Maxlight. I think I have everything I like on it (can't think of anything I would like to change for the first time ever) and I just love the ride. Would be gutted if my Maxlight was stolen.

For a commute it would be best to buy a piece of crap bike or just some old but still nicely working mtb. Chavs tend to be interested more in mtb rather than road bikes. Nothing was nicked from my Crosslight yet and I hope it'll stay this way 🙂

What about giving this "bait" bike an Appollo type make-over...
You know, de-branding etc.
Just a thought.

I get sentimental, has cost me a bloody packet in the past.
I'd hate to see my 04 SWorks Enduro get nicked as I've not ridden anything modern that's as good.
