A group of us are going to Cwmcarn in July and need somewhere to stay for a Saturday night. It would be nice if there was a decent town or at least a decent pub to eat/drink in. Anyone have any suggestions other than the ones on the Cwmdown website?

Stayed at the stables b&b on the cwmdown list. Good and cheap with a pub 5 mins away. Pub is more hungry horse than good ale house but It could be worse.

descent town? How rude
Nearest pub would be Castle or the Philanthropic know as the Traffic, both in Pontywaun. Abercarn has the Market and the Commercial, Market may be clsosed. The New Inn as well is popular. Abercarn Rugby club is a lively night out bands etc etc
Go down the road to Risca and the Fox was always nice.
