Aberdeenshire / Deeside routes

Work will be taking me up to Aberdeenshire (Inverurie sort of area) ย next week and finishing around lunch time on the last day. Planning on sticking my fat bike in the car boot for a wee pootle before driving back to central belt and looking for route ideas?

I presume coming home via Ballater / Glenshee will offer the best scope for a pootle in Deeside/Balmoral...? Only riding I've done before ย in the area was out to Loch Muick which was nice enough.

Thanks

Bheiin a Bhuird would be my pick.

Your idea of a pottle differs somewhat from mine

Bheiin a Bhuird

That looks pretty epic - but 40km route with 17km of climbing on an unknown route when I've probably got 5 hours of daylight is probably a bit more than I was looking for tbh. Thanks though.

Have you got lights? A lot of riding in the Inverurie area if you wanted to get out in the evenings.

Most of it probably fits an enduro bike more than a fat bike (thinking Bennachie, Millstone etc) - but there would be plenty to play on if you wanted to explore.

I was up that way on Sunday. Rode up Glen Lui ย from Inverey (West of Braemar) car park and back through Mar lodge/Victoria bridge. Can easily extend to take in Glen Quioch or Linn of Dee. Very pleasant gravelly riding.

Having just had a weekend in the area, this was my thought too. Lots (and lots and lots) or rocks in the area to hammer through

To add - if you were happy with some bumpy stuff - Heartbreak Ridge in Ballater would be a great outing. Fire-track climb then a nice descent.

I'd be happy on the hardtail on it so assuming the fat bike would eat it up. Plenty of YouTube coverage if you fancied it.

I didn't set off till quarter to five in the evening, so I didn't think it was.....

Ok, you're right, probably not a pootle. But emmintently doable in 5 hours.

But take lights anyway. I almost always take lights, even in July sometimes when I set off in the morning!

I'm soooo bored of Manchester. I want the 'gorms

😭😩🥺

OP

Morrone would be a reasonable, much less extreme/ lengthy alternative to Bhuird

As above, Heartbreak Ridge is great

Also some good stuff on the pimple hill ( ET etc)

Some details very very far down this thread
