Scotroutes, ditto!

And fatbikes... wtf. Cracknell used one for the Iditarod sufferfest that he had a bash at, and I get that. But I live in the UK, Hertfordshire to be exact.

Most boutique brands. No issue with other people buying them for the 'craftsmanship' but doesn't do it for me.

Yeti, totally put off by the combination of exorbitant price, the recurring issues with snapping chainstays across generations of bikes, and the hassle people I know have had with frame failures and warranty.

Evil, enough said.

Ibis/Pivot/Production Privee - lovely bikes, well put together, but the frames are just way too bloody short.

Trek - think they make some of the nicet looking bikes on the market today, but I've seen so many of broken amongst my friends (all dealt with quickly under warranty with no hassle, to be fair) that it puts me off.

Beyond those, I'd pretty much try anything.

I'd happily own another On One if I bought it used, but never new (used ones are more likely to be built right since someone else has tested it for you, and the nonexistant warranty and customer service means there's no benefit to buying new)

And that's it actually. I've never ridden a specialized I liked but I don't hold it against them. I don't like anything about Trek except for their awesome bikes.

Fixie - don't like the idea of certain death* if I stop pedalling
TT bike - I'm as flexible as a plank
Folder - I assume you have eyes?

No brands that are an automatic veto (well, I guess Brompton et al...)

I've had something from everyone's post above, including the Oranges and ebikes I assume ton is referring to 🙂 no reason I wouldn't have them again

*the kind you recover from, but still not very nice

Lapierre and Whyte for me.

No other reason apart from I don't really like the look of them. They just don't do anything for me at all.

I've had a ride of a G160 and actually liked how it rode, but I'd never consider one... strange.

Oh and Evil. Love the look of them, but could never trust it. Apart from all the internet stories, I also know someone who was refused warranty when the top tube cracked (no crash).

Any TT bike because riding on Dual Carriageways is stupid.
A Fat bike because there's no need for one where I live.
An Orange because I've got all the filing cabinets I need.
Anything low slung and slack because they just look wrong.
A Tandom because I can't yet knit my own shoes.

I will try and avoid Specialized because of their excessive litigiousness but other than that I'll try anything.

I've never had a bike from on-one or PX though so I might only do it once.

SS bikes lol
Banshee spitfire is out I'm afraid. But that's ok because it's not the type of bike I'd by.
Dark green might be ok, so long as there's no 'camo' colour scheme or 'army munition box' type print.

I've just checked that F29 isn't a fighter plane. It's civilian, phew.

I have an irrational dislike of Pivot (pdespite Lauren Gregg being so smiley). It's basically down to their habit of writing "PIVOT" on every available surface on the bike.

Never felt any stirrings of lust for a Giant or a Scott - not ruling ti out, but never felt it. I find Niners oddly hard to like too.

🙂

On One and Evil spring to mind simply because of the woeful service people have suffered.

Trek after they hoovered up loads of brands bitd only to pinch the tech and discard the rest.

Specialized probably although for no other reason than they're magnolia imo, along with GT, Giant, Cannodale, etc.

Me too. It's the whole having writing on every square inch of the frame and components element of them that I don't like. Goes for all their other bikes too.

Scott - just don't appeal to me.

On One / Planet X - solely because of the customer service and build quality horror stories I've read.

Would never by a TT bike as I'd never have use for one.

Mine only has it written on the downtube? Admittedly in 3 places (L, R and underneath), but that's it?

Scott - after seeing them all snap/fail during a DH season running them as hire bikes, put me off for life! Although this was back in 2012 so maybe things are better these days.

Adversely I love my S-Works and Crux carbon.

No particular brand I stay clear of but I'll never buy a road bike.

In my opinion they're the sort of thing you end up with when you've given up on life and are too old and boring to go mountain biking. I think I'd rather watch paint dry than ride on the road 😆

Hopefully I've got another 20+ years of proper mountain biking in me then after that there's always e bikes 😀

My carbon 456 frame may have been cheap but it's far from s**t. Been bombproof to me and I built up a cracking bike from it.

Customer service though, well maybe. Only issue I had really is they sent the wrong frame, but then on informing them they sent out the right frame next day. They did take ages to collect the wrong frame and I had to prod them. I should have just kept it 😀

Anyway, my contribution...

Any single pivot bikes - because, single pivot nonsense!

Any frame with press fit bottom brackets - because... I really don't have to spell this out do I?

That's it off the top of my head.

Yeti - I've had a few and I just don't get on with their geometry.
Specialized - I've had a few of those too, and I just found them a bit dull to ride.
I've actually never had a duff bike from PX/OO but I've fallen foul of their terrible customer service. Wouldn't put me off as their stuff is cheap (I currently race one of their road frames). But they're very much a tool for a job, compared to something like a Parlee et al

I'll never EVER have another set of I9 hubs though, they're rubbish. And anything Crank bros too...

Trek are massively overpriced and spec'd poorly unless you spend faaasands, but they ride so nice. My Remedy is still the quickest bike I've own..

I can't see why I'd want a PX or O-O at the mo, but if they bought out a 29er version of the c456 (without the ridiculous short reach of most of their frames) I might be tempted.

Giant and Merida. In my mind, they are like the Honda or Toyota of bicycles: they might be brilliant, but they have no soul.

GT. I hate the whole 'rad' image they stuck to for a very long time because of their BMX history. I don't do things because they're 'rad', dude. That, and the fact that my first MTB was a GT and it was shite.

As for type, electric. Unless I'm elderly or somehow disabled and that is the only way possible for me to ride, I won't touch them.

Evil - a few reasons, they're expensive of course, not as much as some, but with an eye on VFM, they're too boutique for me, but at the risk of going over old ground - their quality control on some of their original FS bikes wasn't good enough and I know they poured their guts out on PB about how it wasn't their fault and all that, but more than that the way they treat their customers - buy a very expensive frame, have either quality failure or even an accident and try to buy parts "sorry, we don't make that 12 month old bike any more, can't get you a replacement swing arm" make some fancy bikes into wall-hangers.

Orange, simple bikes made complex due to the way they're made an again expensive, also I can't escape the feeling they're trapped in that British "if it ain't broke" mindset that lead to a lot of UK manufacturers going to the wall in face of better products from other countries to spend more on R&D.

Cove, I've had two, I adored both of them, but they're just too small an outfit to keep up with the rest of the world - their first (and maybe only) 650b FS bike was a re-branded generic frame. If they released a 650b G-Spot I might be interested.

Their are others, I have issues with vertically mounted shocks, they just look ugly to me.

Type-wise, no form of road bike, ever. I've spent the last 10 years in a 'banter' competition with my road riding mates and I'd never live it down, plus I find riding on the road terrifying and only do it when I have to.

Trials bike, not at my age.

DH - I 'officially' gave up DH in 2011, but never say never - back then I decided I never wanted to race again so there wasn't many places to ride one and I was too old and too injured to ride one properly, now we've got BPW, FOD, AS and more - and I'm stronger and fitter than I was then, it wasn't age. The only thing stopping me now is finding the money.

I think I'd give evil a go now. If it broke I'd just go after the seller for recompense if the company were stroppy. They can argue the toss with the manufacturer.

Trek - don't know why and I couldn't care less about the Armstrong connection.

Marin - for some reason they don't strike me as being a proper mtb brand. The latest release is just amusing. That said, I used to ride a nail trail back in the 90s and it was the bollocks.

Saracen - still damaged by 'that' comment. Probably very unfairly.

Raleigh - cheap shit image. And cheap shit bikes from what I've seen. Be great if they made a proper comeback.

Quite happy to ride giant, kona, specialized etc. So not a boutique thing. More of n image thing maybe. Which makes me just as shallow.

I always said specialized and trek. Specialized because of their litigation history and Trek because of an irrational dislike.

But 2 years ago when I wanted to buy a dream bike the spesh enduro 29er was the best bike for what I wanted so that is what I bought, and if I get my insurance money for it would probably now go for a trek slash 29er.

I wouldn't touch PX/on one with a barge pole though.

Yeti- for the whole fani boy thing.
Intense - for the flexi back ends
Ibis - because they remind me of the magensium bikes of old .Kirks or something like that.
Santa Cruz's - used to like now I don't. Dont know why.
Jones- for beardy weirdys

Just to dislike Giants, Marin, Whytes and Trek but like them now.

Saying that I would happily ride a bike from any of the above if it meant i could ride a bike.

Intense - for the flexi back ends

Intense have the best customer service story I've ever heard. Shop (who will remain nameless) orders a new frame. Take it out of box, notice the swingarm's visibly squint in the frame. Put is straight back in the box and send it back, Intense refuse the "warranty claim" because it's obviously crash damage 😀

OO / Planet X - terrible customer service.
Specialized - attitude of company (litigation).
Marin - poor image IMO.
Lapierre - snapping frames.
Yeti - expensive snapping frames (shame because I really would like one).
Cotic - I don't like how they look. I know, really sorry.
Cove - purile names.

That'll do for now.
