Loving the 29er but the head angle seems very steep (compared to what I am used to anyway) and its a bit jittery on the downs.

Question: how much difference would a slackset bring about?

Cheers!

Depending on how much slacker it would make somewhere between a 'noticeable' and a 'big' difference. I've used a -1? one and that made a subtle but noticeable difference. Fitting a -2? one to another bike really changed the feel of the whole bike. Bear in mind you also drop the BB, but only very slightly, and steepen the seat tube as well.

I also found with the -2? one that I ended up going shorter on the stem to keep the steering reasonably quick. But overall, both did what I expected and wanted - slowed the steering slightly, made the bike feel more composed on steeper descents.

The good thing is that it's easily reversible anyway, so if you don't like the results, just knock it out and re-fit a standard headset and recoup some of your spend on the classifieds/eBay.
