[#6644004]

We are considering a week in the 7 Stanes. I have heard good things about the Glentress blue (we like swoopy, jumpy trails).
Can anyone recommend a good place to stay? We would prefer self catering, bike storage and near to some good food pubs.
Thanks for any help.

The wigwams are right next door.. couldn't be better located. Glentress blue is fantastic - the red isn't much harder and is similarly swoopy.

This; http://www.gorsebank.com for doing the D&G Stanes which are 1.1/2hrs drive away. Then another 1hr to Kirroughtree.
There is also Drumlanrig to fill your week ๐Ÿ˜†

Cheers guys. Anything a bit more luxurious? We were considering a nice cottage for the week.
Or, due to the distances involved would we be better off moving around. We've never been up that way so I appreciate any advice.

Check the forestry closures if you're there in the next few weeks. Was riding there today and lots of sections are temporarily closed.

I'd definitely advise against staying in the same place the whole time. We stayed near Dalbeattie and drove up to Glentress for a day. We had planned on riding Glentress and Inners on the same day but didn't have time. We didn't fancy doing the 2 hour journey again so had to miss Inners. We could have easily spent a 2nd day at Glentress as well.

Lots of people don't like Ae, but if you're keen on jumpy trails I think you'll like it. I certainly did.

We stay at the Stanes 3 or 4 times a year in Innerleithen

Self catering, bike rack/tools secure bike storage etc, cycle path takes you to glentress in about 15/20 minutes or a 5 minute drive

Always my 1st call when heading over

Yes, staying near GT/Inners/Newcastleton is as I said above over an hours drive to the Dumfries Stanes and then an hours drive over to Kirry.
A 2 day stay in Peebles or Innerliethen
3 days in D&G around the Dalbeattie/Castle Douglas area.

I believe a lot of the blue has been closed at GT as of Monday this week, there is a section of red that's closed and a section of the black that's closed, as above check closures for when you want to come up, there's lots of great natural riding outside of the 7 Stanes in the Tweed Valley too!

Innerhaven was lovely when I stayed there (The site has a wee chrome bug at the mo, so look in a different browser!) From the people behind Go-where, so Andy is always good for some insider knowledge on local off-piste stuff! ๐Ÿ˜€

I'd second the two-centre approach... couple days Tweed way then down to Dumfries way... but check the trail sites for closures as "tis the season to be..... diverted"

We have changed our mind and we are going to stay on the Glentress/Peebles side. I have had a look in more detail and I think if we add in some not-trail centre riding there will be more than enough to keep us entertained. So we are still open to suggestions for..
A really nice cottage, some pretty natural routes and the best food pubs in the area.
We are going in March btw.

We did Mabie, Dalbeattie and Kirroughtree over a holiday

I loved the trails but they are not swoopey jump trails. Mabie was smoother and jumpish in places...

Cheers, I think that side of the Stanes needs its own holiday but the Tweed valley side seems to be more toward our preference. The DH on the Peebles side sounds more to our taste as well.

I usually stay at the Tontine hotel in Peebles when visiting Glentress and Innerliethen. It's friendly and good value.
The food is pretty good. The sunflower restaurant in Peebles is also excellent. I think it's only open at weekends though.

No snow last March, but loads the year before.

There's also plenty of off-piste trails, from EWS sections down to long-distance paths. And if you are coming up the M6 way, look in on Newcastleton on your way - a couple of hours of fun.

Cheers, I had factored in a day out at Newcastleton. We have no issues with riding a good trail multiple times so I am sure we can fill a day.

Sorry just noticed your post. Interesting sting looking place. What's the bike storage like?

+1 for the Wigwams. Stayed in them everytime we've visited.

Alternatively, the Traquair Arms hotel in Innerleithen. This is the place.
The cottage is apparently very nice (although I haven't personally stayed there)
and the have Traquair bear ale on draught........ ๐Ÿ˜€
