After just ordering some nano flatties I'm now after shoes. 5 10's seem to be the ones (i can't bring myself to wear the shimano ones in white) so wheres the cheapest and what model ?

Cheers, Graham.

I like the look of them. Quite understated. Probably go to leisure lakes to try on then. Thanks

Impacts are the best, available in high or low versions, and in the awesomely cool (I like mine anyway..) black white and green Sam Hill version.

I got mine off eBay BIN. Address label on the bag said they came from a large shop in Yorkshire who had them on offer for £20 more than I paid on their website..

You'll find it hard to get a deal but CRC have the full range. I got an old pair of Sam Hills which are the low impact and they are great so much so that I hardly ride clips now.

Alternatively you could get you old Vans etc re soled with 510 rubber but I can't remember the web site.

Nano-tech and 5.10 Lo-impact user here. Superb combo. Been using this combo for almost a year now and the soles are holding up very well indeed.

Edit: Feet First are the people who re-sole shoes in Stealth rubber.

Pretty much spot on IME. I just got my normal size.

Yup, normal sizing for me too. If it has the stealth sole you won't look back!

I love the high version of the Impacts, even though my friends christened them 'special needs shoes' 🙂

google shopping shows these guys advertising impact lows and Basics cheaper than I ever saw em when I was looking for em 🙄 (like 30% off)

http://www.bunneysbikes.com/products/Five-Ten-Basic-Shoes.html

and we love mountains have impact slightly less cheap

JE James got sam hill rep cheap

FWIW I prefer my old 20 quid vans. Possibly from initially feeling vulnerable after 15+ yrs on spds, but I like to feel the pedals under my feet with flatties, and 5.10s (or at least the Impact) have quite stiff soles with no feel.

Most outdoor shoe laces can resole with stealth rubber, just make sure your sole is detachable.

I got some element townsend's and planning on re soleing them whent hey fall appart/wear out. Getting close but not quite there yet. £30-£35 is what most places charge so if you can find a place localy that does them you'll save a tenner on postage.

Depends what your riding. Rough downhill then 5:10's are good cos there really grippy.

I think there shite for anything else though, the sole is far to thick and you cant feel the pedals at all.

I use some vans or some hiking boots for dirt jump or xc stuff.

Am40s are better IMO. My 5 10s were great while they lasted, they just didn't last very long. The AM40s are just about as grippy, have better options and construction, are more weatherproof, and generally aren't made out of cardboard.

Between my 5.10s and my hiking boots, I know which ones have thinner soles and better feel for the pedals! 😛

I don't get the cardboard references in regards to 5.10's. They've been my only riding shoes since July last year and i'm no fair weather rider!

They've had numerous soakings and always dry out on the raditor just fine and have no noticeable wear to the uppers.

The cardboard reference is to do with the fact that the inner soles are made out of cardboard 😉 Which in mine has fallen apart completely. Along with a rapidly worn-through inner, pulled stitching on the outers, and the stealth layer's delaminated from the structural sole. Very poor.

My point of comparison as far as wear goes is an old pair of Vans, which I wore out and about as everyday shoes til they were worn out, and then retired onto bikes- they've been used more than those 5 10s since then, yet they're still going strong. So the 5 10s can't match the longevity of an already-worn-out pair of Vans.

I've got 5-10 highs, love the sole, but will have some lightweight boots resoled next time, the boots are OK,but prefer something I can secure the laces on etc.
