Got an old summer season frame in the back of the shed and wanted to build it up as a commuter/hack bike with a rigid fork. Got all the parts except the fork. Would this work? Would me angles be all wrong? Anyone done it? Which fork?
i am doing jsut that with a longer set of salsa cromoto forks, however I am breaking another nike and might take the salsa's off and sell them, just finishing the brakes tuesday when I get home so can tell you what it is like when I have finished it...

I was going to ask a similar question so I'll tag onto this thread...
Using an oldish (10+ years ish) Kona frame to build a 26" wheeled road touring bike. What would be a good fork? Needs to have canti/v-brake lugs and 1 1/8" ahead steerer. Obvious one is a Project 2, but is there anything around with a bit of a curve in it for more comfort, rather than dead straight?
Presumably a normal road fork would be too short and put the BB too low (at the mo it's got a RockShox Judy).
Preferably not too expensive, but something trustworthy 🙂
you can get these cromoto's in different lengths these are the slightly longer, think 475 or 445 axle to crown off the top of my head so could be used for a 29er or suspension corrected for something like my on one (PS these forks WILL be for sale) and come with v brake mountings as well.
if its of help

ah you know what, I have gone mad, I was looking for them SH and these are actually some surly instigators I have fitted to mine, which WILL be up for sale lol
broadbean are you still interested?

Thanks for those links. Both more expensive than a Project 2 though, and look just as straight... do those Salsas have more give than a Project 2? I remember my 1990ish Kona with Project 2 being a bit harsh, but perhaps it would be fine on a road machine - lots of new road bikes have straight forks of course. I'm just used to the more traditional road forks with a bit of a curve.
BTW I may well be interested in your fork if it's a suitable length and has v-brake mounts (could do with mudguard eyes as well ideally). Like I said, my frame has been running an old pair of RS Judy forks (80mm I'd guess?), so yours may be too long? How much will you be asking?
Sorry mine are the surley forks not the salsa's 445 so suspension corrected.
email me if your interested further ngalloway @ gmail . com
OK, email on its way 🙂
