In Hope this weekend and I know we're spoilt for choice for riding, and thats maybe the problem. We have a mtb ride on saturday sorted but would like to get out for 30/40 road miles on friday afternoon, maybe someone has compiled the best local bits into a gpx for lazy people like to to steal?
Perhaps: Up to Edale, over Mam Tor, up to Glossop, over Snake Pass, descend to Ladybower, and back into Hope?
^^ That but the other way around.
Main road out of Hope heading to Hathersage and on the left are a couple of options signposted Aston (only) and Thornhill. Either one works, it just puts you onto some tiny lanes around the back, brings you out at Yorkshire Bridge Inn.
Over the res, turn left and you're on Snake Pass, all the way over that. As you descend, you come into the outskirts of Glossop, there's a pub (The Royal Oak) on the right and opposite is a tight left turn into a climb. Up there (it avoids the hell of Glossop town centre), it brings you out on the A624, turn left and head up then down to Hayfield.
Again, in Hayfield there's a quiet road out - head into the village itself and as you're riding south there's a fork on the left and a steep climb, Highgate Road. Much quieter and nicer than the main road. Pop out onto the A624 again, descend all the way into Chapel-en-le-Frith. Left turn and up Rushup Edge (actually called Sheffield Road) - all the way up there and then as it flattens off, fork left up Mam Tor, descend into Edale and then it's a lovely little rolling descent all the way back to Hope.
37 miles, about 4000ft climbing.
If you would like to avoid busy main roads like the Snake Pass you could head South through Bamford and make for Follow and Little Longstone then through Cressbrookdale to Peakdale and Peak Forest. Back via Mam Tor and Edale. Pint at the Cheshire Cheese.
^^ That but the other way around.
My way around is to do the Mam Tor/Snake Pass climbs in the classic directions, but yes, good your way around too.
