I've been running halo freedom disc rims on hope pro 2s (32H front, 36H rear)since building up my 29er...I've toyed with running the front ghetto tubeless (tape method) and like the lighter feel etc (even after getting a face full of sealant on my first test ride ๐ฏ ) but I don't feel confident with tubeless on the freedom rims as the tyres slip on and off so easily (bonty 29-4 'TLR' folding) so I've decided to build up a second set of wheels with tubeless ready rims (or at least more tubeless friendly). A spare set of wheels never hurts anyway...
I like wide rims and so far have acquired a 32H stans flow which should do nicely for the front, laced to a hope pro 2. My weight hovers around 240lbs so I like a strong rear wheel.
Would you suggest going for a matching stans flow in 36H or something beefier? I don't want to go any narrower than the flow (28mm I think)...
When running tubeless, is the front more prone to burping/blowing off than the rear? Just wondering if I can get away with the rear running tubeless on the halo rim for now...
Any suggestions/opinions welcome... ๐
In over 5 years of running tubeless i've only ever burped a rear wheel, twice on a 26" mavic 717 and once recently on a stans crest 29er
I run sunringle eq27 with stans rim strips and kenda nevegals, no issues so far
Thanks for the replies, another question...what's the max size puncture a decent sealant should seal? The stans sealant says up to 1/4" which is quite a big hole really...I mixed up some sealant using latex and screenwash (from a receipe I found on another forum)and after inflating to 40psi I found a puncture that blasted all the sealant straight out. After thickening the mixture and adding some tiny bits of diced up rubber from an old inner tube it's finally plugged...here's a pic:
The hole measures about 2mm diameter, should sealant be able to plug that size hole easily or is that generally a patch job?
Also, what patches do you use to repair the tyres? Park tyre boots?
Thanks
