Hi All,
Another tyre question ๐
I'm pretty new to this whole plus size thing. Most of my riding is now a combination of towpaths, bridleways, Macc Forest (and surrounding area) plus bits of road to link it all together. Occasional visits to the peak and Marple too.
I was thinking of selling the bike, but I do really like it. I currently have a Vee Bulldozer up front (which might be overkill) and a Chuppacabra out back (thinking of replacing with a Bombilini). I've asked before about rear tyres, but I'm looking for thoughts on front and rear combos.
The Chuppacabra are light and roll well, but I've had punctures in four of the five rides I've done. First two sealed with ther Stan's fluid, but now I've resorted to using tubes again. They also seem really bad in anything resembling wet. I don't have much spare cash, so want to ensure that I don't waste it on the wrong combination.
I suppose the other option would be to turn it in to a normal 29er. I'm assuming the forks would be okay, 110mm Magnum.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Maxxis Chronicle or Schwalbe G One Speed?
I ride chronicle on my Trek Stache the exo ones seem tough. I destroyed a chubacabra on the Southdowns.
They roll ok and have seen all types of terrain.
Thanks both, are you running the Chronicle front and back? Tubes or tubeless?
Been using Chronicles for ages and really like them. Not brilliant but ok in lots of mud, but then we had a very dry winter around me. Tubeless a must IMO to get the best out of the bigger volume
I'm running 120tpi Chronicles front and rear tubeless - I wore out my Knards after 3 years. I ride North and Southdowns - it can be very flinty but I keep the tyre pressure quite supple ar 10f/12r. Rode today on a variety of conditions from hardpack, deep sand, chalk and flint 'marbles'
Dove... How heavy are you if you don't mind me asking. 10f / 12r seems very low to me - I need about 16 min in the rear otherwise I hit the rims (and rear squirms all over the place) Both my Joe Blow fatbike pump and mechanical gauge read within about 0.5 psi of each other so pretty sure I am getting the pressure's I need.
Front I can run around 10 no problem (with the squish forks) but have to bump up to 12 ish for the rigid's.
My racing weight is a pie fabulous 13 stone with kit.
