[Closed] 27.5 Tyres - Tubeless and strong sidewalls

I would have never thought it would be so difficult to find tyes.

I'm running 650B wheels, the current tyres are tubeless and Nobby Nicks I think.

Okay for woods, but get them on anything that's a bit more full on and the side walls don't stand up and tend to fold unless at high pressure.

I borrowed a High Roller II which was a great tyre, but they seem very expensive, plus i can't seem to find Tubeless.

Anything else worth considering?

29er rider but I've had similar issues in the past. Current set up is Magic Mary Trailstar front and Minion DHR2 rear and the combo is working really well even at lower pressures.

Specialized Butcher/Purgatory with the Grid casing - inflate pretty much first time when set up tubeless.

Pretty cheap too!

I've gone for the same tyre set as on my 29er, specialized butcher and purgatory controls. Definitely my tyres of choice they're a great all round pair

These are good.

Minion DHR2 rear

And so are these (exo casing).

Got mine from acycles in euroland.

Or Schwalbe Supergravity casing tyres if you want something almost as tough as a DH tyre.

Is it a rim width issue?

Just real lack of choice, I'm in Switzerland so it's a little limiting on what I can get my hands on in 27.5

Anyone used these at all?

WTB Vigalante Team Issue, find it great in all conditions and so far bombproof/stiff.

I use a maxxis minion tr up front and a high roller 2 tr in the rear, both tubeless.
In my second bike a xc 27.5 I use std tyres tubeless. I've got Schwalbe rocket Ron 2 evo's using gator tape and sealant. I've done a few hundred miles on them with no problems or burping.

But the rocket Ron are not very grippy. Would use maxxis every time if that was my priority. But I need fast rolling too for commuting.

Used the Ardent Exo in 26in 2.4 and it's a good tyre, but I did put a hole in it riding the GR5 towards Les Linderets.

If you're in an Alpine bit of Switzerland I'd go for Schwalbe Supergravity tyres for that bit of extra protection.

Schwalbe SuperGravity - heavy, but stiff and strong.
Hans Dampf at the back, Magic Mary at the front.

Also used the Mavic Charge/Roam XL combo, but I'm not aggressive enough to get the best from them, and prefer the leanability (ie, constant lean/roll, no 'edges' or steps) of the HD.

I notice there seems to be quite a few places to get tyres apart from the wiggles and chaingreactions of this World.

Any other sites people can recommend for tyres?

Nextdaytyres maybe. I've not bought tyres from him, but a couple of other bits (repair kits) - no issues.

The German sites (Rose, Bike Discount, Active Sport etc) seem to be the best places for Schwable and Conti tyres.

I've just made the switch to 650b on my hardtail and am running Conti Mountain King protection tyres and the side walls seem pretty good even at low pressures. If I wanted a more agro tyres than these I'd look at the Baron or Trail King. I've not ridden them that much yet but they seem tougher than my Snakeskin Hans Dampf's on the other bike.

Continental's 2015 tyres will include an Apex sidewall option. Super tough!

Geax (Vittoria) Tyres in their TNT casing version are only slightly heavier than normal casing, but VERY tough. Most tread patterns (my favourite is the Goma) available in 26, 27.5 and 29er too.

The Ardent 2.4s are pretty good, but better in drier conditions. The HR2 comes in EXO TR versions, as does the Excellent Minions (which would be my choice). Given the strength of the CHF this month I would expect that buying from the UK or similar would be pretty good value right now.

Try finding a 27.5 tyre with UST for mud, hen's teeth.
