As title, I'm looking to get a new steed via the Cycle to work scheme - my employer appears to have a max of £1k (which is disappointing). Don't mind topping up a bit to get the right bike.

Already have a 26" steel hardtail and a 160mm trail bike so looking for something different with more xc ability. I hope to use it for off road commuting, longer distance rides and possibly a bit of bike packing.

Looked at the Parkwood - gets very poor reviews about quality of welds, paint finish etc. Do like On-One though. also can be run as 29er.

Charge Cooker - bang on the money but not well reviewed, rigid forks and 27.2mm seat tube are all cons...

Cotic Solaris - looks great, can be either plus size or 29er, need to top up another grand though. If I could get £2k on the scheme I'd be ordering it already. Possibly.

Any suggestions? I'm not the most genned up in terms of manufacturers and new bike news.

Ta!

I commute off road and rigid is good if you do it all year and want to reduce maintenance. I'm seriously thinking about one of these as it would also work with my Rohloff.

Marin Pine Mountain One. About £750 I think. We have a fleet of them at work and they are brilliant fun.

My first factory built bike in a decade is a Scale 710 plus. Surprisingly fast, large doses of fun and hugely capable bike on all the trails I'd normally ride my Genius.
Looks like the 720plus isn't much of a top up over your 1k.

Sonder Transmitter from Alpkit? Designed by Brant and they seem to do Cyle To Work. Brilliant, fun, hardtail.

Alpkit will charge you a 10-15% admin fee on top of the bike price for c2w, add in the final fee at the end from the c2w people and it might not be worth going through c2w at all.

I get you but there are other benefits to reducing your taxable earnings, like keeping your child benefit.

Any salary sacrifice that keeps you under that limit, such as c2w, childcare vouchers, additional voluntary contributions to pension etc pays me back over a grand a year.

Better in my pocket than theirs....
