[Closed] 27.2 Dropper posts - what is out there?

Been riding a hardtail for a few weeks and really enjoying it apart from the inability to drop the saddle height. Thinking a dropper would be handy and it is a 27.2mm diameter seat tube.

So what options are out there for a suitable dropper?

Thanks.

KS Lev seems to get good feedback.

Gravity Dropper, Hilo, Lev, T-Mars (and derivatives)...

There's a few options, I would go simple and mechanical if buying one now, GD or T-Mars depending on budget...

Currently still using a four year old Hilo, just replaced the seals and it's working nicely, cheaper than buying a replacement, but it is mess and time when a cheapo mechanical dropper really isn't very expensive these days...

I've been looking at 27.2 GDs. CRC doesn't seem to have much stock - does anybody else sell them?

Had two hilos and gave up. Got a GD and it's fine. Needs a little gaffa tape to stop the collar moving but that's fine by me.

Thomson is pretty good
Has developed a slight amount of side to side movement - more than my KS supernatural but not enough to be noticeable on the bike. Not sure if this is just to be expected with such a skinny post?

£75 Sorata Pro is the same as the £90 RSP Plummet and looks to be better constructed than the £55 T-Mars, that's my research on the same thing at the mo.

Bent my OnOne Twelfty on the SS so I'm a bit concerned about strength too.

Had a Xfusion hilo for a couple of years now, not fitted the cable as I wanted to be able to swap it in/out. Easy to use with the under-seat handle.

Still works as well as ever, recommend.

GDs are pretty expensive new, but a good used buy- they're fully, easily servicable and the parts aren't too expensive, so it's realistic to keep them going basically forever. I put a whole new shaft and seals in a mate's and it was still viable.

I have an RSP Plummet and it works fine. No where near as smooth as my KS LEV but does what it says on the box. I push a button, sit down and the seat goes down. Push it again and the seat pops up again. Note there is no rebound speed adjust so it pops up pretty fast but I have never had it bash up into my man parts.

The rubber gaiter got a tear pretty quickly and just stays compressed at the bottom leaving the shaft exposed and its continued to work without me doing anything what so ever to keep it working. Its on the second bike so haven't used it too much recently. I was riding it regularly during spring and it conintues to work fine.

Yes you can get better refinement by spending more but tor the money I think the RSP Plummet is great.

i have the same one and it does the job for me. easy to take apart and service and very little to go wrong with it.
the speed can be adjusted using the prelaod cap at the bottom of the post but if you wind it in too much the post wont drop to its lowest setting.
one word of advice is if you do buy this post take it apart and clean the horrible thick vaseline type grease in the post as it slows the action of the post. put in some quality grease and the performance will improve greatly.
my only moan about it is the spring inside the post isnt the best (looks like it was taken out of a retractable biro pen!!)

For a little balance, my RSP Plummet lasted about three months working intermittently in standard Dales conditions before giving up the ghost completely and jamming down so badly that I couldn't even get it apart in the workshop. Returned it.

Stripped it down a few times to get it working again after it stopped returning or staying down during rides. When it arrived it was so badly greased that it took two hands to operate the remote! Shite can get straight in through the big allen key hole in the base of the post, and I don't think the gaiter is particularly effective either.
