Hi
Find myself in possession of a gravel frame and 700c wheels
I have some old through axle 27.5 mtb wheels
Is there any reason (assuming axle compatibility ) that I shouldn’t use these with 650b tyres this winter?
Thanks in anticipation
Cheers

Nope, knock yourself out!!

650b tyres on FSA wheels, most gravel bikes are non-boost and obviously you won't need something very wide rim-wise.
👍
How wide are those rims please?
They are 22mm internal, 47mm tyres.
what tyres are those? I've just got some 650b wheels for my Arkose and I'm looking for something good in mud....
WTB Sendero 47mm, they're good in mud (as you can see).

I run these in winter and the WTB Byway in summer, which are great when dry but lethal on anything wet.
I thought they might be sendero's. Are they really draggy on tarmac? I do 50-60km mixed rides in the winter on southdowns chalk and roads....the holy grail is to find a tyre that works on both!
Not that draggy, no - in fact my first ride on them was a 33 mile mixed ride with tarmac, pilgrims way offroad, some steep pushing sections.
If I'm going to be doing more tarmac I typically increase pressures to 30-34psi, more off-road then they'll be around 25psi.
Hope pro4 on fortus 26 27.5 rims with vittoria mezcals 2.1
the senderos are excellent in mud and if you only ever ride off road and very little tarmac they are the go to tyre, but they are draggy on the road and a bit squirmy when leaning the bike over for fast turns on the road
Thanks for contributions so far
The wheel that I habit in mind are RF affect 15/12 TA
The gravel frame is 15/15 TA
is there any way that I could convert the rear to a 15mm through axle?
I’ve have a good google and can’t find anything
Cheers

Are you sure the gravel frame isn't 12/12 TA?
Good point
Just checked
You’re right
12/12
Mea culpa
Similar question but front conversion to 12 mm
I ran some 650b Senderos on my previous gravel bike for a while, and was pleasantly surprised by them. I found them just the job for mixed rides with about 50% tarmac - great in mud and not that draggy on tarmac considering.
The last wheels I built for my #gradventourer used Shimano XT hubs and Superstar 25mm internal MTB rims. Runs well with WTB Byways but I need to look at something else for the wetter conditions. Might be Ventures.
Will be taking my gravel bike to the tweed valley and arran next week and have just thought I'd better swap the tyres from the byways to the senderos.
Chances of Scotland being bone dry in the next 2 weeks is, well, slim.
So 29ers on mtb and 27.5 on gravel. So what do we do with 26"?
So 3 sentences started badly all in the same post.
Thread resurrection:
The wheels fit with a 15:12 axle adapter from SJS
The freehub is xd, the drive train is 105 11
Does anyone know if a cassette exists that will fit please ?
Thanks
Looks like The Pilgrims way just up from Snodland @ta11pau1?
I have a Revolt 0 which will accept 650b wheels, i've just bought some WTB Nano's but i'm seriously considering getting some 650b's with 12mm axles and sticking on some fatter tyres to see how different it is.

Its been bloody wet here the last weekend but it could be dry in two weeks...

Correct!

Also correct! 😁 Arran was very wet, then dry, then wet, then dry, then wet...
Lots of great gravel riding there though.
