What BB height did you end up with?
My 445mm Hummingbird for has given my HJ a 12 7/8" BB height, which I gather is pretty high. Rides ok to me (had a 140mm fork prior to conversion).

You could look at a 650B conversion?
Is their any benefit to a 26 rear and 650B front? It could save your geometry.

[b]mudsux[/b] I'm committed now, it's either 29 or 26, I kinda like the 29 and tbh I can't notice anything wrong cos I know no better. Just curious how other peoples BBs coped.

I did it on an Inbred but used a 26" rigid fork (I think it's 440mm a-c) and really didn't notice any difference in the bb height. I shortened the stem by 10-20mm to tighten up the steering and it rides lovely! 🙂
