The X fusion shock on my Marin Rift Zone is making a sound like a Welly full of custard (don't ask me how I know) and I doubt it's even worth looking into servicing it. A new one is about £80.

The fork has been upgraded to a pike ultimate, with 150mm and it's lovely, and I'm thinking about letting the moths out of my wallet to fit something of a comparable standard on the rear.

CRC have a deluxe ultimate RC in stock in 210 X 50 flavour, is this a suitable companion to the Pike?

Thanks very much.

In short. Yes. I've got the same size on my stumpy.
Where are you looking for it at 80 quid ?

I’ve got a 210 x 50 rockshox deluxe going spare after having a bike stolen - was new in July and wasn’t on bike long - drop me a pm if you’re interested in it. Not got round to listing it yet!

Is it the correct tune for your bike?

Plenty on Pinkbike.I think it may be worthwhile checking the tune before buying for compatibility.

Dunno how much you're looking at paying for a Deluxe, but the Cane Creek Air Inline is very adjustable and I'd expect it to perform significantly better.

Probably my first choice of shock for a bike of that travel. They are about £350.

Plenty of deluxes around for less than that... and Cane Creek's reliability reputation would always put me off

How on earth do I find out if something is the right tune? (Rear shocks are something of a novelty to me. I shall Google.)

I’d be tempted with a Cane Creek Db Air if I didn’t want to go coil on a bike like that.

The Rockshox will be ok but the Cane Creek has more adjustability to get it just right.

If you want to go the Rockshox route you could ask your local Marin dealer / email Marin uk to see if they know what tune you’d need on a RS shock for that bike

Thank you everyone. I've emailed Marin. I'll see what they say.

The reliability was with the old air-IL...
The newer one is as reliable as any other shock now.

I've one (on a stumpy) and it's fab..

No need to worry about 'what tune' as it's got independantly adjustable high and low speed everything, so can make your own tune.

Yeah, I had a couple of the original ones fail - but would buy the updated model.

Beautiful damping feel compared to the Fox and RS inline rivals.

The X fusion I saw for £80 was on the bay.

I'll let a few more moths out and get hold of a Cane Creek, I think

Be prepared to be spending some reasonable time setting it up of you go cane creek if you want it to feel great. Follow the set up guides and do repeated runs of the same sections and working out what it's doing and learning what each setting actually does with too much or too little.

It's easy to make a super adjustable shock much worse than something that's kind right with a standard factory tune that has limited adjustments. Be methodical and change one setting at a time. Make notes so you know what felt good, bad or better.
