It's about time we got our act together and went for another ride. For those as yet unindoctrinated, the general idea is a group ride taking in the sights and sounds of Birmingham, picking a route through the city that inevitably includes steps, stairs, ramps and perhaps a multi-story car park before we find our way back to a pub for an evening pint.
I'm proposing we stay with the established tradition of a Thursday night. Specifically...
7.30pm, 1st of August at the Bullring Bull.
Everyone is welcome, those that have not been before even more so.
Winch (formerly known as swingbing)
P.S. A little taste of what to expect:
hope your ready...
That's the first time anybody has posted a vid of mine.
I'm in. Although 7:30 might be a stretch but if you still have the same mobile number I will let you know.
We should have plenty of light available to make use of the map you set up.
Will u be blasting the closed tunnels?
Taking in the sights and sounds? ๐
Now where is that Telly Savalas video promoting Birmingham..
loving the multi storey, I'll have to try that. You guys are like the BMX kids!!
What psi for car-park lifts?
I think car park 4x will be better this time as they will be quieter so we can go faster.
Anyone fancy the canal steps at Birmingham Uni?
The urban blast that the artist formally known as swingbin and I did was good fun but I think I'm doomed to never be able to make it to the main group ride. I'll be in Cornwall on the 1st so can't make it... again. ๐
Next time composite, next time...
Canal Steps you say. I'm currently between suspension forks, so will be running rigids. Its going to make all these steps 'interesting'.
19.5 psi.
Damn, I am away that date otherwise I would have been straight there. Please, please let's do another one towards the end of August as I want to play!
I was expecting stair gaps outside the library and wot not, is it just a night of bunny hopping tramps in car parks?
Come and show us how stair gaps are done then st...
Since a few people already can't do the 1st, let's open it to a vote.

ST, bear in mind this is STW so whilst most of us talk the talk we are in fact fat, under skilled office workers. Last time we went out it was the kind of riding I used to do as a kid, blasting around town, jumping off steps and trying not to falloff in front of your mates. Frankly, it was bloody brilliant.
So is it going to be like this?
what tyres for stairs? Should I go 650b? ๐
I'll be skateboarding I'm afraid...
You choose a skateboard over a Rocket?!
I would love it to be like that DH video above but sadly Birmingham doesn't quite have that much elevation.
Now, this looks like a laugh...

every time.
Thursday is my night at the mini ramp I have keys to... Having an entire ramp for 4 or 5 of you to skate is pure luxury. cut me I bleed griptape ๐
Winch, In fairness I'm not the one advertising an urban ride;o) there at least needs to be bombing through the Mailbox getting chased by security!
I am tempted although I'm supposed to be enjoying the delights of Broad Street on 1st but will see.
Lunge, I know that really... I've not done it since I had a part time job at On Your Bike (the old one) back in the late 90's, I remember min ing around jumping off pairs of steps thinking it was ace, some dodgy trialsy riding then out on the towpath to the old BMX track at Perry Barr. Ace times.
Bombing through the Mailbox and riding the escalators was an idea that as far as I know nobody has had the bottle to try. I would be well up for it but I'm not going to be the one to instigate it.
...the old BMX track at Perry bar is no more.
The new one would make a good day out though and is something we should organise I reckon.
new perry barr track is nuts.
Perry Barr BMX is fantastic but much more tiring than I ever imagined.
L ache, go on, you know you want too and yes it was a real shame when the bmx track fell I to disrepair. I used to live 5 minutes up the road and spent a fair bit of time watching the racing there way back. Had a great time last year watching the Euro champs there, it looks ace and defiantly too much for me.

'ST'? Is that you Stuart? If so they were ace times! Bones, Little Ian, Steve Large etc...

Sweet, I'm up for that. Count me in
Don't forget to vote for the date if you haven't yet.

I'll wait and see what the preference is and join that if that is ok Winch?
Yeah, of course.
Jay, yes that's me :o)
I've voted as I'm tempted. Sounds like a laugh. And the Thursday suits me as I don't have work on Friday so no 3am starts next day. Ftw!
Stu can flatten the library on his Panzer before the demolition crews start.
Tru-dat etc.
I'm in. Only in Tamworth so not far to travel.
Can do any of the dates too.
lol @

spot on lunge.
I'd be up for this again. I'll put a post on the Godiva club forum when dates are confirmed.

Cool! Everything good?
Looks fun!
st: Am i right in thinking your involved in the New St Station build?
Are there any quiet times? ๐
I'm too old, if we got caught riding through the mailbox I'd get done as the "responsible adult"
Don't get caught then.
So far we have 5 for Thursday the 1st... any more takers?

Will this deffo happen unlike the massive fail for the meet at Sandwell Valley?
I'm away until Monday now so won't be on this thread. I guess we should give it a bit more time to see if anyone else is interested, but from the looks of it at the moment it's still going to be the 1st...
Jay, , yes good thanks, still just mincing around the Chase. You?
L ache, ;o)
Yes still mincing. When I ride some of the Monkey especially - reminds me of the old routes we did on all-dayers!
Bump
Any thoughts on route yet?
We just rode around last time and people had ideas where to go. There was a plan at one point to ride up the canal to Birmingham uni and mess about on the steps and wall drops. I still fancy this.
There were also ideas about riding through big tunnels, the queensway would be great if we could get access.
I'm definitely up for razzing through the queensway. I don't imagine it'll be closed again for many years so this is too good an opportunity to pass up.
Plus it'll look ace on the video!
Queensway would be great but I am a little worried about it being locked down or have overnight working. If we can get in there it will be great, we won't get another chance that's for sure.
Does anybody else have a GoPro?
So looks like we're on for plan A,
7.30pm at the Bullring Bull this Thursday.
I_Ache, my number is the same if you need to play catch up.
^ Dry and sunny according to that weather forecast ^ ??
26 degrees at start time not warm enough for you?!
Haha I looked at today by mistake! Yeah looks good weather.
Oh man, of to Wales Friday, and sorting Mates wheels out as tubeless so can't do tomorrow.....
Next time, next time.
My plans to attend have been scuppered by an evening meeting at 7:30, sorry guys.
Who is still keen for this tomorrow? If it's only a couple of us maybe we should rearrange it
I am going to have to pull out due to having to secure my shed a bit more thanks to the thieving scumbags that broke in and nicked my chainsaw. Luckily my bikes weren't there but I'm on holiday next week so want to get it secured so its not easy for them to come back and have my tools. I've got some barbed wire to go between the trees where they got into the garden which might be a nice surprise for them.
Oh dear, I'd be leaving those tools in the house while you're away I_Ache.
Since 3 of the 5 that were coming have now pulled out, I suggest we postpone the ride. Next one I can do is the 29th, but if anyone else wants to organise something before that then feel free to!
29th should be fine for me.
A lot of the tools are in a bloody heavy tool chest that I can lock but two could probably just about carry it. I'm probably going to bring my drill and small tool box inside tho.
I have just been to Wickes and bought a new lock and new hinges. They will have to break the door down to get through these. I'm going to put about a million extra screws into the roof joint to make it even harder for them to pull that off. Its quite a robust shed so they will have to make a hell of a lot of noise knocking the door down or a load of leverage getting the roof off. I have tried to get the roof off from the inside and I couldn't.
