Hi,

So.... I have got my bike in bits to give it a good servicing and I've hit a bit of a wall in terms of how I remove the lower swing arm bearings.

The design of the swing arm appears to be the problem. Is there a specialist tool?

Someone else must have come across this problem. Please Help!!!!!!

13mm socket on inside of pivot (I'm sure it's 13mm although check first, will fit snugly in the swing arm hole) , extension bar through oppersite pivot, hit with hammer.

Thanks for your reply that should work for the right hand side, however applying the same method on the left hand side poses more of a problem due to that angle the designers thought they would slip in there.

Any other suggestions people?

It will work for both sides, just rest the swing arm against a bench of some kind will only need a gentle tap to get them out.

Gentle/firm tap not working! I found the bearings in the top pivot were really tight to however I was able to use a vice and a socket on them.

Use a second person to hold them arm at the angle required to have the face on a bench while you knock it out, try some penetrating fluid in there first

A soaking in boiling water may help. Never had one come out with gentle tapping, all the hateful ******** things i've worked on have taken a right beating to get out.

Carefully use a hot air gun to warm the ally arm up a bit.

Carefully is the important word here, you are looking at getting it hot enough, say 120degC, enough to just make water dropped onto it boil, not much more) Or, you can obviously and carefully use a pan of boiling water to warm it up,but wear decent thick gloves so you can handle the part when it is hot!

Boiling water helped a treat - I didn't realise Alu alloy expanded so easily.

Thanks for your advice.

For anyone else looking to tackle this you need the following:

2 x 6902RS bearings (I used endure max versions) for the lower swing arm
4 x 6802RS bearings for the upper swing arm
13mm socket for bearing removal
Socket extension
Hammer
Boiling water
19m socket
Vice, hammer or M10 threaded bolt, nut and washer

I used a combination of the above to insert the replacement bearings, the vice being the easiest.

Job Done!
