If I buy the 2012 X2 I will save £550 , would this be a better buy if I spend some of the money upgrading components ?
The X1 is Fox front and rear as opposed to Rock Shox on the X2 , would this be a deciding factor ? I've had experience of both makes of fork and Fox rear shocks and can't fault any of them but have no experience of the Monarch rear shock.
If I upgraded components what would you ditch first ? I was thinking wheels and cranks would make the biggest difference. Gears could be left until they need replacing I guess.
Any thoughts be welcome.
Just got a 2013 X3. Binned wheels first for set of Hope SP on Crest rims. Saved about 500g right away. Few other bits changed as well here and there. As for rear shock, had various over the years and really not noticed any difference between them all. All seem to do a job.
(I have never ridden an anthem, let alone an "x" and never a 29er anything, however...)
maestro suspension doesn't seem very demanding on shocks to me - just works quietly and doesn't really bob or anything much
forks - I'm wary of fox just because of the number of people who moan about buggered forks due to wear and non-warranty status
so I'd get the cheaper one
EDIT - unless you know yoiu'll end up upgrading soon. Far cheaper to do now I'd think
