Seem cheap enough but do they work?
It for a Barry White Inbred
They do work eventually, i hated mine for ages, but in the bad weather we have been having must of softened them or me up as they work really well now, i will still be changing them for some hayes stokers in a few months but thats just my preference.

Do they take the same pads as XT etc? I read somewhere that they're intentionally fitted with a long-lasting, low power pad but if that's all that impacts the performance it could be sorted easily enough...
If you want cheap, Julies would be my shout.
Or use better pads in them?
Not sure about 2010 but I've been running a set of Deores since 2005 and I'm only now getting a slight loss of performance. Once tried Julies and didn't really like. Also never really got on with Juicy 5s although some like them. For much cheapness I quite like Hayes HFX 9s. Not to everyone's taste but I likey.
