Head towards Hopton Woods, Briestfield, Whitley - quite an extensive network of off road stuff to get lost in for a couple of hours

What Justridemtb said, Hopton (Hagg) wood, up to Whitley. Also blast on the canal to Brighouse and there are few good short routes from around there. A further blast on the canal can get you up to Norland Moor which is also good.

I have noticed that Ravensthorpe CC are looking at doing some MTB rides based from Mirfield, have a look on their site.

Hope this helps....

Pop into the shop in Mirfield and ask for Colin, he'll be happy to give you a few pointers. Generaly a ride from there Monday nights.

Happy to go for a spin round Mirfield if you drop us an email (in profile) but a wee sloppy at the moment (I live in that lovely town).

Lots of good riding around there without straying too far from around the golf course area. An evening ride I sometimes do in the summer is park at the bottom of Hopton Woods, along the valley and then up the cobbles (Yellow Brick Lane?). Right at the top and follow the BW until it reaches a road. Straight on there and as you enter the trees (with the golf course on the left) there are some nice bits of swoopy singletrack to the right. Rejoin the main trail and then take the next kinda obviosu right for an excellent little singletrack descent. Left at the bottom and climb up above Bluebell (Ladywood?) Wood. Take the right hand turn into the woods along the edge of the field and on entering the woods theres a nice multiline descent with jumps and stuff all the way down to the bottom of the woods. At the bottom, go through the gate and head back up the hill towards the golf course. Right at the top and then left through the golf course all the way to the top and when the BW turns a sharpish left, take the (cheeky but flippin ace) descent which runs along the edge of the golf course back into Hopton Wood. Muck around in there for a bit around the bomb hole and then a short drop back to the car.

Not the most massive ride ever and I've done a few rides with mates further afield from there, right over to Coxley Wood and the prison place over past Flockton etc but can't remember exactly where it went!

Can get out to Emley and Sculpture Park from there too. I live in the area and ride most evenings and weekends. Drop me an e-mail if you fancy a pedal out that way.

You can also connect the above route (which is actually my regular, local route!) to a route to storthes hall via kirkburton and a couple of bridleways/cheek/road, let me know if you want more info.
