Got 2 days off in a week and look to go biking with a friend. Based in the biking Mecca of Cambridge, so a fair drive. All of the above are just over 4 hours drive.

I was thinking the following

South Wales - drive over very early drop bags at BnB or hostel. Ride Afan and the following day Doethie Valley/Breacon Beacons. I’ll need to find a route GPX for the natural riding and sharpish.

North Wales - Drive over a bit later drop kit. Walk up Snowdon and back down at cycling time. Next day Penmachno or Gwydyr. Can’t see too many problems other than weather.

Lakes - Drive up very early and do Whinlatter. Go to hostel, food etc. Get up early and one of the big rides around Keswick. If weather comes in it could be more trouble than Snowdon.

I’m most keen on the lakes but the other 2 are more sensible given the time frame. In regards to weather would rain or low cloud cause problems with Snowdon or Lakes.

We are both fit enough and take enough kit out.

Alternatively if anyone knows any guides in any of the regions, happy to pay for a good days riding.

There’s a few good wet weather options in the lakes; you can fill a day around Coniston / Grizedale forest bridleways if the weather sets in. Lots of low-altitude stuff between Winster and Staveley too.

Have a look at trail finder mtb on you tube he has a video of a circular route from grizedale over to coniston and back and also one of the bridleways of grizedale that looks good He has a few other lakes routes that are worth doing too. He also has strava links to the rides on you tube too.

Should of mentioned to check out Ian Boyden’s book; lots of goood routes in there; he’s on YouTube as lakedistrictrider so you can scope them out visually too. If you head to Grizedale make sure you include the 3 Witches descent 👌

Thanks both, trailfinder mtb even leaves the routes in his YouTube videos. Going to watch lake districtrider borrowdale Bash tonight. Book looks like it’s got a good selection of routes.

Always good to have a look at the riding first on YouTube.
