Planning on an overnight stop in lakes, going up riding Saturday, stay over and ride somewhere Sunday, where would you stay and which rides would you do?
I spent 3 days in the Lakes a couple of weekends ago and despite it being wetter than an Otter's pocket all weekend, we did some great rides.
Stayed in a guesthouse called Rosemount inbetween Windermere and Bowness which was very nice indeed.
I can send you a couple of gpx files of the rides we did if you are interested:-
Day 1, 28.6 miles, 2,700ft climb - Windermere, Hawkshead, Ambleside
Day 2, 27.4 miles, 2,454ft climb - Grizedale, Coniston
Day 3, 19.4 miles, 2,217ft climb - Windermere, Kentmere, Staveley (the oldies were getting a bit tired!)
Excellent lunch stops en route and we stopped at a bike shop each day, the first two were superb (Ambleside and Grizedale) but the staff at the third shop in Staveley were totally miserable. The routes were varied with technical climbs and a combination of flowing and technical descents - a brilliant combination.
Whatever you do, have fun!!
Darren
If you want to stay somewhere a little bit out of the way, then Coniston Coppermines YHA is a nice spot and you can do some good riding from the door.
