i'll be running a 32 front tooth ring and 11-36 out back, im also only going to run a top chain device (e13 seat tube one), i just wondered about the chainline, and spacers etc?

im guessing as the 32 tooth is the same as current 3x10 and it will be sitting in the same position on my cranks that my chain line should be exactly the same? as im effectively removing inner and outer rings but the middle will still be in the same position as before? cant see why that should then make it any harder to align than a normal mech?

as its a seat tube mounted device i shouldnt surely have to remove spacers then?

Should be fine not having any issues with mine: Rubs a little on the chain device in 1st or 10th depending upon spacers for the chain device but its nothing that would ever make me want to change back.

cheers simon - thats just the thing, am i missing something - but at the mo i get no rub at all on my front mech on 1st or 10th on 3x10.....the chainring will be in the same position as current setup and same 32t size, so if all im doing is effectively changing the front mech for a guide, how come i should get rub at the extremes?

i must be being dumb and missing something simple, but i kinda assume as im using the same size front ring etc it should be a straight swap, with no need for rubbing and no need to remove spacers on the bb? ๐Ÿ™

front mech is wider than a chainguide.

It'll work fine. I have a 36t on mine with the bottom bracket mounted XCX guide. no issues.

slight rub at the extremes of chain angle shouldn't be a major problem, plastic sliders/guide plates on chainguides "wear in" with use.

make sure it's also set-up not to rub excessively or cause any other problems throughout the full movement of your swing arm too.

Why no lower guide BTW?

cheers guys - sounds promising and it sound relatively hassle free! kinda thought maybe if there is slight rub the chain may rub away abit of the plastic, hopefully wont need to much adjustment then, the gap certainly looks not much different between the plates as a normal mech cage really...

GW - running a clutch mech, so chain is nice and taught at the bottom

I'm running a 33t front 10spd 11/36 cassette on mine with a E.13 SRS+ guide - it's noisy but no rub in any gear

works brilliantly - no regrets ๐Ÿ™‚

the clutch might deal fairly well with the extra chainslap from having to run a long enough chain to cope with your dinner plate sized largest sprocket better but it certainly won't be any match for a lower guide when it comes to keeping your chain from derailling from below if back pedalling over rough ground.
