I have just got a new XT chainset and e13 34t guide ring. I’m using an e13 chain device but it’s all out of alignment.
I’m not using any spacers on the HT2 BB but as not used to using Shimano stuff any help appreciated.

chain ring should be on the other side of the spider, where the middle ring would be, you've put it where the big ring goes.
First things first, before anything else, YOU MUST install the chainring in the middle ring position, not the outer position. Otherwise no wonder you can't get the right chainline!
Also, what width is your BB shell?
If it's 73mm, you should have one spacer (though the arm for your E13 will count also) on the drive side, if 68 then 2 drive side and 1 non drive.

Continuity - just looking for help. This is replacing my X0 chainset so this shimano is pretty alien to me.

Had an issue with mine, in that the "cage" needed spacing outwards. Ended up shimming behind the cage.
Mine was Superstar XCR guide on Deore crank.

Incidentally, running SS I run the ring outside, because chainline is better that way.
