I quite fancy some longer forks for my (last gen) Heckler for an Alps trip in summer, and some of the steeper, rockier descents out there - ie Peaks and Lakes. I currently have Pikes on it. However, I don't want to be stuck at 160mm all the time - I reckon for day to day use 140 is spot on, and it's nice to be able to wind the Uturn down a bit for twisty singletrack. So I need something with travel adjust.

So far as I can see, my options are Uturn Lyriks or Domains, or TALAS 36's (which I don't really fancy). Any other suggestions? Or I guess I could just buy something longer for the Alps and keep the Pikes...

Older Z1's at 150mm- can be dropped/locked at 30mm?

I did have a look at 66's as well actually, as a "just for the Alps" idea. Z1s can go on the list!

Coil Uturn Lyriks.. every 25 hours.. lowers off new oil in. and they work like a dream.
Talas still feel wooden.

06 66 Rc2x would be excellent.. either in 150 or 170mm mode (although no reduction)

05's were really long

That's a right deal, only a fiver more than they have Domains for! I'm pretty set on some Lyriks if I can afford them, but Domains do look like a viable (and cheaper!) option.

What're the (non TST) 55s like? The basic R models seem pretty cheap.

getee1972, I would be interested in that firm spring if it's going.

OP, Lyrik coil u-turn all the way.

Are Wotans not a 2-Step travel adjust? ie. 120 OR 160mm with nothing inbetween?

Was in yesterday and Freeborn's Lyrik(s) was actually £400! Not sure if that's the last pair but that's an amazing price.

True, but quite fiddly to do when riding...

I'm not too worried about being able to adjust on the fly, more about having a good range - ie when I'm in the Alps they'll be set at 160, over here mostly at 140 I reckon.

**edit** Geetee - was that for the Uturn coils? Wish I was closer to Freeborn!

Could get those cheap Fox Float 36s off si_progessivebikes on here and reduce the travel with a spacer to 140mm for uk usage.
